New Pup's Unusual Food preferences

My new puppy gets boiled chicken and holistic kibble but insists on chewing wood chips and stones. He also seems to like soil and goat manure (I use this for garden fertiliser). Is his diet deficient in any way and what should I do about it?
Thanks!{sweat}

Hi, Doghouse --

If your dog is eating soil, I wonder if he's not getting enough of certain minerals in his diet. Does your holistic kibble have any added vitamins and minerals? If not, you might look into a multi-vitamin/mineral supplement.

I'm not sure what attracts dogs to manure, but they all seem to go for it, no matter how well-nourished they are. My dogs always seemed to think horse manure was the best treat ever! {ohmygod}

Good luck to you & your pup!

We took our 4 months plus Golden for a walk today. While he was sniffing the sides, we noticed he had some brownish stuff in his mouth. To our horror, it was some other dogs' poop, which is fresh and brown...... {nah}{nah}

He seems to like it. We had to get him to drop it.

They seem to love manure for some reasons...{sick}

Thanks for the tip Maneki. I will get some multi-vitamins for him. I'm just afraid he will ingest something that will upset his system or worse, cause complications. Nice to know that other dogs are the same.

Thanks for sharing lohcl! I wonder if it would be a good idea to brush their teeth after such a misadventure. I surely wouldn't want any dog licking my face or me kissing my pooch after that. YUCK!

First thing we did when we reached home is shower his mouth with lots of water.... He loves the kids and loves to lick them.....

We are watching Marley and Me now. A fun and crazy show about a Lab Retriever and his mis-adventures.

For me what maneki said might be one of the reason. Currently, I like to watch these youtube video by Dr Karen. Here you are http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5ZeNLUEHKY
