Save Homeless Animals with Facebook!
 

Hi Guys,

We have just released something cool... the PetFinder.my Application for FaceBook! Yes, you can now promote homeless pets in your FaceBook profile!

The application will automatically configure a simple PetFinder box within your profile to display animals awaiting adoption. You can also selectively feature specific pets within the box, or recommend suitable pets to your friends! The list of pets awaiting adoption within your box will be automatically rotated every few hours to give proper exposure to all the pets.

This is the first release, so it might contain some bugs. Please do let me know if you come across any problems.

Once you have successfully set it up, please Add Me as a friend so I can check out your PetFinder installation and ensure that everything is functioning correctly.

p/s: I finally got to creating this app over the 2 sleepless nights last weekend, thanks to Euro 2008! Sigh.. all the remaining matches are now at 2:45am, more sleepless nights to come! {sweat}

Damn Cool Application if I can say so myself....

Also, there's now a PetFinder group on Facebook as well.. be sure to join, create a viral activity so that lots of ppl know about PetFinder and get all our animals adopted asap!! Perhaps one day, animals will be adopted within minutes of being listed!

OK, that sounds cool! I've been trying to avoid having too many networking accounts. But I guess another one won't hurt if it's to support a good cause :) Will add you up once I got an account. Cheers!

You can now add your friends in facebook and invite them to add the PetFinder.my application (click on PetFinder.my at the left sidebar, then at the applications page, go to "Invite Friends") {wink}

Yup, great work to everyone out there!

Many PetFinder members have installed the Facebook application within its first day of launch, and as of now, 250 cute doggy, kitty, hamster etc pics are being featured simultaneously across these facebook profile pages {wink}

To get this application out there, please invite all your friends to join it as well.

Also, be sure to join the PetFinder Group on Facebook. Those active participants will be make officers.

To those who've added the PetFinder.my Facebook Application, you might have noticed that with Facebook's latest upgrade, the animal profiles are no longer directly displayed at the main profile page - it's moved to the Boxes tab instead, which I believe most visitors will never notice.

To make it more effective, I've just implemented a simple PetFinder box which you can display within your main profile page.

Below are the steps:

1. For those that have not added the application, please follow the Installaton instructions here first
2. Go to your Facebook profile's Boxes tab
3. Find the PetFinder box, and click on the Pencil Edit icon at the upper right corner of it
4. Click on the option Move To Wall
5. Once done, a mini PetFinder box will appear at the left side of your Wall page, featuring a random pet for adoption that is automatically updated every hour

The good thing is the PetFinder is now visible directly at your profile; bad thing is that the box allowed by Facebook is so small that it is only sufficient to feature 1 animal, as opposed to the unlimited number displayed within the Boxes tab. So, it's up to you {wink}

Ashley,

Did you accidentally click on Remove Box instead of Move Box To Wall?

In any case, here are the steps to add the PetFinder Box again to your Boxes Tab:

1. Click on Applications button at bottom navigation bar, then click Edit
2. At the Application edit page, locate the PetFinder.my application, and click on the Edit next to it
3. A window will pop out, click on the Profile tab
4. Click on the Add link at the Box section, and set it to be viewable to Friends of Friends

Once done, the PetFinder box should show again at the Boxes Tab, and you can try moving it to the Wall again.

Let me know if this works.

i've found my petfinder.my application. it was never removed because i didn't remove it but for some reason it dissapered altogether when i clicked on "move to wall" initially.

now it's back to the box tab.

i know you have done so much already but i find that facebook allows an application to be set up with its own invididual tab (like the tab for wall, photos, etc) but this is only good if the said application allows for "tab" to be created.

i much prefer to set up the tab as well as the "wall" thingy cos the wall thingy only allows 1 pet to be displayed at a time whereas the Tab thingy will allowed petfinder.my to be "featured" prominently within my facebook page.

what do you think? currently i set it to box tab

Dear Members,

I have just updated the PetFinder.my application in Facebook.

You can now add the PetFinder application as a Tab in your profile, so all your visitors can view and search through the list of pets seeking adoption!

Here are the instructions on adding the tab:

1. First, you would need to have added the PetFinder.my application. If you have not already done so, please follow the instructions here first
2. Once done, go to your Facebook Profile page
3. At the Profile navigation bar (where you see Wall, Info, Photos etc), click on the Plus "+" sign. A list of applications will be displayed, and PetFinder.my should be one of them. If it is not listed, type the name PetFinder.my at the Search Available Tabs section there.
4. Click on the PetFinder.my selection, and the tab would immediately be added to your profile!
5. You can click on the tab's name and drag it left/right to arrange it.

Don't forget to click on the Invite Friends tab to have your friends add the PetFinder.my application as well!
