After 8 months Jilly (dog) is off the street!

Hello there,
I normally don't post many messages as I figure most of us are so busy taking care of our companions or trying to help those on the street that we don't have a lot of time to read messages/postings.
However, I couldn't help but share the happy news that happened last Sunday evening. I've been feeding and trying to gain the trust of a stray dog that has been living in the neighborhood for the last 8 or 9 months. She was living and taking shelter in a vacant, overgrown lot. Recently, workers arrived to start clearing the lot in order to build a house. I really feared for her safety. {scared} While Jilly had started to trust me enough to come close for her meals and sniff/socialize with my dog she was still very hand shy and I couldn't touch her. Sunday evening she followed me and my dog on our return trek home. Perhaps she knew it was no longer safe to stay where she had been living....
To make a long story a little less long-- with help from my dog, some boiled chicken, and neighbors across the street we managed to get her into the house and into a room for safe keeping until she could be brought to the vet in the morning. She has been spayed, microchipped and we are waiting for her to fully recover from the spay and she will get her proper vaccinations. Starting to work on finding her a forever home but I know it is going to be tricky.....
I guess the main point in posting this is to remind my fellow PetFinder friends and rescue people to keep up the good fight. Sure, Jilly might just be one dog but she is one dog who will never have to have puppies again or worry about where her meals are coming from or if the people she meets are going to mean or kind to her. Continue doing whatever you can--- however small to make life better for our animal friends. Sure it may take time to see the change but.. it can happen... and when it does.. it can be really great! {happy}
Woof,
Mutt
