Homeopathy Treatment for Canine Parvoviral Gastroenteritis
 

Which is relatively new to North American dogs, canine. Parvovirus made its debut as a severe epidemic disease in the late 1970s. In young and adult dogs, parvovirus infection manifests itself in acute fatigue, high fever, profuse vomiting, diarrhea (often bloody), and profound dehydration from the loss of body fluids. In unborn fetuse, the heart muscle is often severely damaged, many puppies born after having contracted parvovirus while in the uterus of female subsequently die of heart failure.

Canine parvoviral gastroenteritis is spread from an infected dog to a susceptible (non immunized)dog by contact with feces, vomitus, or blood. The virus also can be carried on the shoes and clothing of humans exposed to infective material. Yearly booster vaccinations are recommened, they are usually included in polyvaleat vaccines for major diseases of dogs.

Treatment
(to treat parvovirus, we have to concentrate on vomiting and dehydration. However, if you follow the advice on treating diarrhea and vomit there is a good chance the puppy will live.)

During early stage of parvovirus, puppy usually show vomiting, to prevent it from getting worst condition we should know how to stop them from getting profuse vomiting.
Homeopathy treatment for Vomiting: Ipecac (Ipecac Root) 6C
Useful for persistent nausea and constant vomiting where much saliva is generated because of nausea. Give one pellet or tablet every 4 hours until the symptoms are gone. Provide no food for 10 minutes before and after treatment. If your canine shows signs of improvement, you can stop using the medicine. If there is a fever, then continue treatment until the temperature is below 101.5 degree F. If you do not see improvement within 24 hours, however, you should try other suggested remedies. In addition, withhold all food and water during the vomiting period, allowing the canine to lick ice cubes occasionally. To replace fluids and salts (if there is dehydration), give a small enema every couple of hours. To each pinch of enema water, add 1/4 teaspoon of sea salt (or table salt as a second choice) and 1/4 teaspoon potasium chlorida (sold as salt substitute in many markets. Given as an enema, this fluid will be retained and absorbed in a dehydrated animal.

However, if the parvovirus have found in the second stages, which is more severe cases, it will be wise to use the following treatment. Most importantly, do not feed any solid food for 24 hours. A liquid fast will give the intestinal tract a chance to rest and do its job of flushing thing out. Make sure that plenty of pure water is available at all times and encourage drinking. A danger of excessive diarrhea is dehydration from the loss of water, sodium and potassium so provide these in the form of broth make from vegetables, rice, and some meat or a bone. You may also add a small amount of naturally brewed soy sauce to enhance flavor and provide easily assimilated amino acids and sodium. Offer only the liquid part of the soup, serving it at room temperature several times a day during the fast period.

Homeopathy treatment for Diarrhea and Dysentery (severe cases)

Slippery elm powder:
Available in most health food stores, this material from the inner bark of the slippery elm tree is an excellent treatment for diarrhea from any causes. To make it, thoroughly mix 1 powder with 1 cup of cold water. Bring to boil while stirring constantly. Then, turn the heat down to simmer and continue to stir for another 2 to 3 minutes. wait till mixture thickens slightly, remove from the heat, add 1 tablespoon of honey, give 1/2 to 1 teaspoon to small dogs and puppies, 2 teaspoon to 2 tablespoon for medium dogs, and 3 to 4 tablespoon for large dogs. Give this dose 4 times a day or about 4 hours. Cover the mixture and store at room temperature. It will keep for a couple of days. It is easiest to buy the herb in buck as a loose powder. It's available in capsules, but it is both less efficient and more expensive that way. You can order it bulk through natural food stores.

Mercuries Vivus (Mer-cury) 6C:
The severe diarrhea attack (frequent, bloody stools with much straining after passing the stool) is suited to this medicine.

General Advise
During the treatment it is important to be watchful for possibility that some causative factor remains, such as an irritating chemical (for example, a new flea collar), the use of milk (which bothers some animals), polluted water, or acces to spoiled food in somebody's garbage can or a compost pile. An animal's is lack of response to treatment can sometimes be traced to the persistence of such a cause. Treat them at home or with your veterinarian's help, as is appropriate.

Once recovery seems to be underway, feed small amounts of plain yogurt or liquid acidophilus drink or capsules (available in natural food stores) to healp replenish the intestinal tract with friendly bacteria. When you are bringging your pet out of the fast after a couple of days, start with broth, mixed with the solid vegetables used to make it. After 24 hours you can introduce the yogurt and begin to reestablish a regular diet, using white rice (just for a few days, then brown rice) as the grains because it is generally good for slowing down diarrhea.{victory}
