DIY Recycle Paper Cat Litter
http://media.shozu.com/cache/portal/...886132_journal
Fill to full a basin/baldi with shredded newspaper. http://media.shozu.com/cache/portal/...886130_journal Fill with water and add a little bleach to disinfect the paper. http://media.shozu.com/cache/portal/...886128_journal Step in on the paper to make it compact and compress. Do this a couple of time to make the paper soaked. Add more paper to fill the space. Step in the paper again. Cover and set aside for a day to soften the paper. Note that not to keep this for too long as the soak paper tent to smell with time. |
The Process continue - Mashing The Paper
Once the paper is soft, now the mashing process start. Use a rubber handgloves to protect your hand and nail from print ink. Make sure this gloves is of your hand size.
Start with tranferring a ball of soaked paper to a second container. Add water in. Squeeze and tear the strip repeatly. Add water as necessary. Once done, pour to the third container. Repeat the process till you are happy with the condition of the paper. http://media.shozu.com/cache/portal/...886126_journal What I do to make the mash more finer is by blending the paper with a DYI mixer by using drill. I tied curtain hook to a steel rod, insert to a drill and blend the paper for finer result. http://media.shozu.com/cache/portal/...886124_journalhttp://media.shozu.com/cache/portal/...886122_journal In this process, adding water must be in caution as too much will just turn the mixture, too little just burden the drill. You can also use normal kitchen blender to do this too. Now the paper is all set for the next step of the process. |
Getting Rid of the Access Water
Pour the mixture into use pillow case. Make sure the pillow case is still strong and the paper mixture is heady. Tied the pillow case and set a side to let the access water flow out.
http://media.shozu.com/cache/portal/...886120_journal This may take a couple of hours. Just relex and let nature take charge. Once the size of the pillow case reduce to half, it time for you to transfer it to your washing machine. http://media.shozu.com/cache/portal/...886118_journal Tuck the pillow case to the bottom of the washing machine evenly to balance spinning. You cant do this with side loader washing machine. http://i.ixnp.com/images/v3.47.0.1/t.gif http://media.shozu.com/cache/portal/...886116_journal Spin as usual. Repeat spinning will remove more access water. |
Re: DIY Recycle Paper Cat Litter
Once the spinning is done and the paper is remove from the pillow case, it would be in a form of block like this.
http://media.shozu.com/cache/portal/...886114_journal The next step is to break this block into pieces. http://media.shozu.com/cache/portal/...886112_journalhttp://media.shozu.com/cache/portal/...886110_journal Now these paper cat litter is ready for drying. You can bake it at low heat in the oven to speed the drying process but sun heat drying save energy cost. Final result will change the color of the paper to white, depend on how fine the paper being grained. When contact with urine, the paper litter turned dark. http://media.shozu.com/cache/portal/...886108_journal Only dispose the dark wet paper litter. The litter box is dry and clean all the time. The only odor would be due to the urine stain on the box which can be minimixe using soda bicarbonate else frequent cleaning will do the trick. Amount of litter should cover 1 inch of the bottom of the litter box. Dispose soil paper litter into toilet bowl. You need to prepare and process this paper litter in advance if you intend to use it for you newborn kitten as it cant be use straight away unless you dry bake it in an oven. You'll need large oven for this! So, thats about it how it all done. I do my drying on the ceiling deck of my flat apartment as I am staying on top floor. It would take a week to completely get the paper litter to dry. Initially, I made it from day to day until the deck was almost filled with the paper litter. Now, I would only do it, once a while to keep up the stock. http://a4.vox.com/6a00f48ce131dd0002...a8140005-500pi So, good luck in making your own cat litter. |

Re: DIY Recycle Paper Cat Litter
Take note, this paper is not fine enough yet. You still need to work more to get if finer.
http://media.shozu.com/cache/portal/...e7704/83886126 At this stage, the mixture of paper and print ink can easily stain your nail and finger black. Use gloves. |

Re: DIY Recycle Paper Cat Litter

Quote:
Disarankan pakai household handgloves. Sebaiknya guna yang saiz muat-muat tangan, saiz M atau S. Fist time aku buat, guna L, payah nak merenyuk dan menghancur. Selepas menghancur guna tangan, baru guna blender atau modified drill cam aku guna. 1st time aku guna blender tapi pastu guna drill, ada gak faedah dari disimpan tak diguna. Kalau rendam dengan Clorox dulu, kurang sikit kesan minyak dakwat. Aku dah test tanpa guna bleach, masa memecah block kertas yang dah dispin pun kuku dan tangan jadi hitam. Kalau guna gloves kurang selesa, jari krem. |

Re: DIY Recycle Paper Cat Litter
Quote:
Tak payah bleach sebab toilet paper tu dah dibleach masa dia diprocess dari recycle paper. Tapi guna toilet paper hasil dia kurang sebab fibre kertas pada toilet paper tu tak padat macam newspaper. Sebab itu dia lembut. Segulung toilet paper tu banyak mana saja hasilnya nanti. Sekali kucing dewasa pee pee jer dah kena buang semua tapi kalau untuk guna kitten bolehlah... |
