just a thought though, maybe the petshops only have a few animals for adoption at any one time because that is all they can afford? rescue work is expensive and resource intensive.
however, i agree with clement that these shops should not sell other animals, especially intact ones. this evidently makes any rescue work one does redundant. albeit in five years time, the cats needing rescue will be longhaired, but the problem will still be there.
