Have you looked into registered boarding facilities? (If you share your location, perhaps members can recommend some near you.)
I would be extremely careful looking for individuals to tend your dog while you're away, especially a shih tzu. Yes, there are a lot of genuine animal-lovers out there, but I'm sorry to say there is also no shortage of people who would happily agree to watch your dog and then sell him. Is he neutered? If not, he'll be a prime target for puppy mills. I don't mean to be pessimistic, but these are genuine concerns.
