Default Re: Russian Restaurant Busted for Cooking Dogs

Agreed, Bernice. If it were acceptable and legal to serve dog-meat in Russia, the Chinese restaurant owners wouldn't have needed to deceive their customers, listing it as beef or pork. It's really upsetting to read stories like this one, both because of the dogs being "cruelly butchered" and to think that restaurant owners would be so unethical as to lie about what they're serving. For those of us who don't or can't eat certain things, this is a frightening thought.

Police raided the eatery when neighbours became suspicious of whimpering packages delivered in the night. Officers later discovered some of Moscow's many stray dogs ended up on the menu after reportedly being cruelly butchered by chef's at the restaurant.

The restaurant owners were charged with selling food dangerous for human consumption, and animal cruelty.

I realize that some cultures see dog meat as a perfectly acceptable food meat, but deceiving others into thinking its beef or pork ought to be criminal, if it isn't.
