Memang no choice but to take him with you, kan? So, drive very slowly and smoothly, be gentle on the corners, jangan bawa kereta laju-laju dan buat "korner lepeh" mcm Michael Schumacher, kalau kena brek pun buat smoothly, no jerking, etc.
Jangan main lagu rock atau heavy metal kuat-kuat dalam kereta, if you must, put on some very soft healing music.
During travel, stop the car kat tempat rehat yg sunyi dan redup and talk to him gently, sayang-sayang dia. Tapi best not to take him out of the carrier langsung, you never know, nanti dia suddenly panic dan loncat lari dan tak dapat tangkap kang! Never take any chances, kalau nak sentuh dia pun, you can slightly open the door sedikit, hulur tangan ke dalam dan belai dia. Tetapi make sure the other hand is ready on the very slightly open door, pressing all the time in case dia tolak nak keluar. Pay attention always and you must never allow yourself to get distracted while doing this. Do not look away from him and the carrier or talk to anyone else because he may panic and jump out in a split second. Best to do this with ALL car doors closed and you sitting inside beside him.
While travelling in the car, try to constantly talk to him in a soft, soothing and loving voice, tell him that you sayang him and that tak lama lagi sampai lah.
Feed him his favorite wet food 1-2 hours before the journey because he is sick dan tak baik puasa dia lama-lama.
Ambik surat khabar sebanyak 20 helai atau lebih dan alas carrier tu tebal-tebal. Pastu, crush several helai surat khabar buat mcm bebola dan masukkan ke dalam carrier. He will use this to hide himself, feeling more secure and the loosely crumpled paper will also act to serap any poo/pee atau muntah yg akan membasahkan bulu dia dan juga carrier, making his body uncomfortable and cold in the air-con car.
Kalau dia poo/pee/muntah, you can always stop the car and buka pintu sedikit while preventing him trying to come out of the carrier dan tarik semua surat khabar yg basah. Lepas tu toss in more crumpled newspaper to replace the wet ones and to keep him clean and dry once again. Make sure you have ample newspaper and plastic bags.
Tak payah masukkan litter sand or food and water in the carrier, it will just mess up everywhere. Anyway, most cats will be so stressed semasa travelling mereka pun tak lalu makan. But have ready a small can of his favorite wet food atau beberapa cubis daging ayam kukus just in case dia ingin makan sedikit. Have a big thin piece of cloth like curtain to partially cover the carrier. Kalau boleh, put you car shade on top of his carrier to block out the strong sunlight.
Bila sampai destinasi, quickly put him in a cage in a very quiet and secluded area with absolutely NO children or nosey or noisy adults around. Absolutely NO CHILDREN because children are too active, jerky, noisy, curious and unpredictable. Your cat needs absolute peace and quiet to rest and recover. He must have his privacy.
But you must continously go in and talk to him gently, spend time with him because he will feel lost and stressed in the strange environment that is not his own territory. You will be the only link to his home environment where he his safety and security is. Without you, he will be more lost, stressed and fearful because during festive season, the whole house is loud and full of excitement, all strange things to him to make him unsettled.
You can give your cat DMG supplements by Vetri Science to boost his immune system. They are quite good and I have seen them at Healing Rooms Veterinary Clinic, Subang Jaya.
