As Coony said, the breeder must register the kittens with CFA, giving proof that the parents were also registered.
This is a topic that come up often on Petfinder. People buy cats. The sellers tell them the cats are pedigreed. If you do not get a certificate from the breeder, you have no proof that your cat is pedigreed. This is one of many threads:
