Default Re: Campaign Stop puppy and kitten Backyard breeder do trade through Pet Shop

Ezer,

There is no such thing as a Certified Breeder. There is NO exam, NO interview, NO pre-condition, NO criteria that a breeder has to meet to be qualified or elevated to a Certified Breeder status. This Certified Breeder status is NON-existent.

Since Jimmy has explained it succinctly, I'll just quote his post #148 at page 8 in this thread.

[QUOTE]Secondly I wud like to make some correction here as I believe many don’t know there is no such thing as certified breeder but only registered cattery name breeder. Since no registry does monitor breeders ethic & no register cattery name breeders need to graduate to be one.

I believe at least 80-90 over percent registered breeders in this country are BYB or kitty mill. There is no such thing as registered cattery breeders are automatically ethical breeder, so.. you see these breeders can also be BYB or kitty mill. I can give you an example that the 2 cat clubs in the country or rather only 1 now have many of their members who are truly BYB or kitty mill. I’m still very shock when I talk to most of the members of 1 of the oldest cat club in Malaysia (MCC) who don’t quite believe in spay/neuter & majority of them are BYB, whether some of you like it or not this is my honest opinion & it is the fact. I hope the very new generation of this club will reverse this very ill thinking & bring back grace & not disgrace to the cat club. So!! bear in mind the so call certified breeders can always be a BYB or kitty mill.

There are so many so call reputable breeders in this country who are actually BYB or kitty mill, it’s not hard to identify them but yet many ppl here choose to support them & ignore the fact. Imadi Pet Shop is 1 for sure & so is Trendy Pet Shop, cattery like Padipaddi as well as many others which I do not want to name all here. One of the worst things about them is not only how unethical their breeding is but also how they encourage more pet owners to be BYB. A lot of you know who Pakcu is & I will leave it to you all to tell us his ethic. [END QUOTE]

So....you see, even Jimmy is not a certified breeder because this status simply does not exist. He is only an ordinary, ethical registered cattery breeder.

The question is how to recognize an ethical breeder. I don't claim to know how, but this is what I know about Jimmy. And I am at his shop quite a bit to help out with his rescued cats so I believe I am in a position to observe him.

So, I shall use his standard as a benchmark to measure all breeders. Yes, I am ready to be shot at by BYBs and kitten mills.

01) He does NOT have kittens available for sale at any one time, i.e. he does NOT breed his cats all the time.

02) He may have a litter of kittens, but chose to keep all of them for himself because his purpose of breeding is to improve the breed standard for show purposes.

03) He only uses less than 5% of his cats for breeding, choosing only the very best temperament to continue the line. And he doesn't hesitate to retire his cats after he has improved their line.

04) Once he retires his cats, he REHOMES his cats FREE of charge. Yes, you read that right.

A much sought-after Felis Wonder pure pedigree Maine Coon is given away for FREE to deserving people when he has been offered as much as anything from RM10k to RM30k for it.

I personally witnessed all the above, and that is how I realised that his name has been much maligned by unethical breeders who didn't like what he was doing (refusing to be a BYB).
