Default Rascal didn't deserve this! Pjud@Hafizuddin, this one concerns YOU!

Let this post be an eye-opener to the hundreds of rescuers, fosterers and animal lovers on this site and every other. Let them NOT make the same mistake that I did with my boy. What has happened to him will torment me for life, but I will make sure that his story doesn't go unheard of. No other fur-kid out there deserves to fall into such irresponsible hands, none of them deserve to become victims of such intentional neglect.

Rascal was born to a stray mother cat I rescued last year (March '10). After 3 months under my care, he was adopted by a Malay lady and her husband. This year (February '11), she contacted me saying that she was already pregnant with a child and could no longer afford to look after Rascal. He was returned to me, along with his female friend, Minnie.

Rascal: http://www.petfinder.my/pets/12713/
Minnie: http://www.petfinder.my/pets/18717/

Two weeks after posting his profile again on PetFinder, I was contacted by another lady who mentioned that she'd just adopted a female cat from the SPCA, and was looking for a male companion for her. I handed Rascal over with good prospects. Unfortunately, the next day she called to tell me that her female cat was constantly hissing and growling at Rascal, and that she'd never managed cats that way before. Rascal was returned for the second time.

During this period, I was contacted by a man named Muhammad Hafizuddin. His username on PetFinder is Pjud. He expressed serious interest in Rascal over the weeks that Rascal was with me, constantly asking me for updates on Rascal. In the adoption form, he portrayed a good profile, agreeing to medical care, a safe indoor environment (apartment), good food (royal canin etc.) and personal attention from him and his family.

I believed that Rascal deserved ONE MORE chance.

Less than a week after adopting Rascal (last Sunday night), I noticed Hafizzudin's posts on Facebook, discussing about sending Rascal over to someone. I called him to investigate, and he told me that he was planning to send Rascal to his family house in Negeri Sembilan, to his kampung! Alas, another adoption gone wrong!

Since hearing the news (Monday and Tuesday), I constantly called him, telling him that i'd like to have Rascal returned. He agreed but delayed our meeting, until Tuesday evening, when he finally revealed to me that Rascal had gone MISSING.

Horrified, I made my way to his apartment to search for Rascal. I noticed that his kitchen window was WIDE open. He blamed it on his friend who had (according to him) forgotten to shut it. He also told me that Rascal had GONE OUT MANY TIMES BEFORE and managed to safely JUMP over to the corridor area. He had the nerve to explain this to me! He lives on the 12th floor of the building, and he'd promised to keep Rascal indoors and safe!

I immediately prepared fliers back home. I went over to the apartment area and posted over 200 fliers around. I never stopped calling out to see if Rascal would appear. I returned home hours later, mentally exhausted and praying that Rascal was safe and sound.

That afternoon, I received a call from one of the apartment residents. He told me that early Monday morning (between 4am to 5am), he'd heard something fall through the back airway (kitchen) area. The man told me that the cleaner lady had screamed a while later (around 7am to 8am) and when asked, told him that she'd discovered a dead cat.

I hurried to the apartment management, hoping to speak to the cleaner and get details regarding the cat. Color, markings, collar, anything. I didn't want to believe that it could've been Rascal.

BUT, I was cold-heartedly told that I didn't have the permission to speak to the cleaners, and that pets were NOT ALLOWED in the apartment premises. Hafiz never told me this! The manager also told me that if they find animals, they either call the MPSJ, and if dead, throw them into rubbish bins. He threatened to report ME and told me that they don't entertain fliers around the apartment area. All the fliers were torn down on the same day.

Today, I made a second call to the management. This time, a lady from the security section picked up. After hearing my pleas, she agreed to help. I rushed over once again, and was escorted by the lady cleaner involved to the airway area.

Her immediate description of the 'kucing warna coklat dengan belang hitam' matched that of Rascal. She opened the steel door to show me pools of dried blood at the airway area. The sheer agony I felt at the time is not something I can put into words...I took a glance upwards and spotted Hafiz's grill on the highest floor. The entire scene of what may have happened played in my head. My Rascal never had the chance to cross over to the corridors, he fell 12 floors down to his death the moment he'd stepped onto the grill.

The cleaner explained again that Rascal had been found on Monday morning. It struck a nerve, as I realized that Hafiz had clearly lied to me about Rascal going missing on TUESDAY. Rascal had fallen in the dark hours of morning, between 4am to 5am...what responsible pet owner would keep their pets susceptible to the outdoors at such hours? Hafiz had left his windows open OVERNIGHT. And he'd LIED to me that the whole accident was caused by his friend's carelessness!

With a heavy heart, I asked the cleaner where Rascal's body was. She told me that Rascal had been packed in a black bag right then and thrown into a rubbish bin. Picked up on the same day. It's killing me right now to even put this into words...MY BOY DID NOT DESERVE TO DIE, NOT LIKE THIS. I WASN'T EVEN GRANTED THE CLOSURE OF FINDING HIS BODY. RASCAL WAS A DARLING, A VERY WELL BEHAVED CAT, ALL HE WANTED WAS A LOVING AND PERMANENT HOME.

Now, Hafiz@Pjud is back on his feet again, posting comments on several PetFinder profiles, asking for new cats and kittens to adopt. He CLEARLY doesn't care. The life I placed into his hands meant NOTHING to him, he'd been careless and DOES NOT feel sorry about it. Because it was given to him for FREE. He is now seeking new replacements. Here are a few of the mentioned profiles:

http://www.petfinder.my/pets/19208/
http://www.petfinder.my/pets/19229/
http://www.petfinder.my/pets/19354/
http://www.petfinder.my/pets/19391/

My plea to the moderator, Andy and everyone else:

Please do not let this person dwell any longer around the forums, or among the PetFinder society. Remove him from this space, so that no other fur-kid here will fall victim to his negligence. We rescuers work so hard for our animals, they do not deserve such horrible endings.

My advice to all pet owners out there:

PLEASE BE SURE of your ability to provide permanent care to the lives you take into your hands. DO NOT ABANDON your pets over trivial reasons, do your research before you take that next drastic step, please...you wouldn't give up on your family members just as easily, would you? The fact that they're 'just animals' DOES NOT give us the right to treat them ANY lesser, to take their lives for GRANTED.

I do not know who deserves the blame for this situation...but I do know that until the very end, all Rascal wanted was to go home, back to when he was loved and carefree. I hope that in some ways, his ordeal will help teach others (rescuers and pet owners alike) to be more careful and considerate about the roles they've assigned themselves to.

May Rascal finally have some peace.

Those who treat cats/dogs/rabbits as animal, will never shower them with love. Until they see them as pet or part of the family, the chances of the furry growing old is very slim.

Poor Rascal!!!
There no reason for letting Rascal fall out of the apartment like that...

I live in apartment myself on 5th floor. I put the net on all the grill, corridor and balcony to provide my cats a safe environments. My apartment also doesn't allowed pets but i make sure they stay indoor so nobody could complain about my cats.

Pjud just being irresponsible owner...

Vee20, my deepest sympathies go to you and to Rascal. No, no cat deserves his fate, but please know that you did everything possible to find him a safe, loving home. I remember your heroic rescue mission when an earlier adoption went wrong () -- I know you go all out for the cats you rescue.

A few months ago, I was working at an adoption table at a cat show. We had a few rescued DSH cats there for adoption. One man strolled by and expressed interest in one of the cats. My colleague asked the man if he had any former experience with keeping cats. Oh yes! he replied. He'd had 3 cats before, but they had all fallen off his balcony and died. Now he was looking for a 4th cat. And no, he had not taken any steps to secure his balcony, and in fact, he seemed startled when my colleague suggested it. I guess he figured that sooner or later, he'd find a cat with better balance or less curiosity.

I don't know what the answer is for people like this. It's not possible to teach someone who just does not care. We can say that pets are living, thinking, feeling creatures -- not toys to be carelessly thrown away -- but does it sink into their heads?

Will someone please tell me, if you don't care whether the animal lives or dies, why adopt in the first place? Any thoughts, pjud?

My deepest condolence to you Nita. I can imagine the pain that you have gone through when you finally found out that the cat that died was Rascal. Please don't blame this on yourself as it is trully not your fault. You have done the best for Rascal. It was the people who adopted Rascal that is to blame

I know its not easy to screen potential adopters as these so called future adopters can be actors/actresses when they want to adopt. They will promise you the world saying all sorts of lies but in the end the poor animal will suffer.

I notice that Pjud wanted to adopt 'FREE' Guinea Pigs. And I did stress him that having a pet you will need to be 'RESPONSIBLE'. I believe that if the person cannot even come up with a minimal adoption fee than this person is not to be considered as a potential adopter. Being a RESPONSIBLE pet owner, you need to cough up monthly expenses in terms of food, vitamin supplements as well as for medical when the need arises. As a pet owner you will need to provide a safe and comfortable environment too but not in Pjud's case.

I also believe that STUDENT'S should NEVER NEVER be considered as an adopter for pets. As they are not ready to be responsible for their pets as they do not have the capacity in terms of funds, time to care for the animals. However not all students are IRRESPONSIBLE. I do know a few that care very much for the well being of their pets but a majority DO NOT!

How could Pjud blame his housemate for being careless when he himself is CARELESS? You being a pet owner must ensure that all windows, doors are closed before going to sleep. Its not the responsibility of the housemate to do this since its not his/pet.

Pjud, if you are a RESPONSIBLE pet owner like you said, why did this happen to Rascal? If this can happen to Rascal, then the future GP that you are going to adopt will suffer the same consequences too!

Pjud@Hafizuddin, ManekiNeko and FelixTheCat have both asked you questions. Why not answer them? Where'd the usually active guy looking out for 'freebies' go?

Look VERY closely at this young life that has perished because of you:

He did nothing wrong to deserve such a horrible fate!

EXPLAIN yourself, why'd you lie to me? Why did you NOT you contact me the moment he went 'missing'? Why'd you make me wait the ENTIRE week just to learn OUT OF MY OWN EFFORTS, the horrible fate that had befallen my boy??

Admit your mistakes here, apologise in front of the entire PetFinder community. Show yourself. This is your last chance. You have time until this weekend. PLEDGE to stay away from all pets and people here.

If I don't hear from you, I will post your pictures up here for the entire PetFinder community to see, I will make sure that no more pets here fall into your hands, Muhammad Hafizuddin. It will be my final effort at avenging Rascal's death.

Your clock is already ticking.

Such a beautiful cat Rascal was. May he Rest In Peace!

Imagine Nita, he wanted FREE GP's meaning he wont want to part even with RM35.00 to RM65 for a GP. What more for the cage and accessories? Food? Bedding? So what makes you all think that he will or is a responsible pet owner?

Rascal mmg cantek.....tapi kisah dia penuh kesedihanwalaupn sya x la mmpu nk mewahkn bulus2 yg kt umah ni,tpi sya mmg ambil berat pasal mereka, terutama waktu sakit.....walaupn kemampuan sya terhad, tpi kerana kasih sayang terlalu mendalam pd haiwan sya gagahkn juga.......walaupn bulus2 ni mmg x cantek

Nita, my deepest condolence to you and Rascal. I can imagine the pain but please don't blame yourself for this.

I've been following this case and when I read your comments in Dr Chan's blog I knew that Rascal is doomed. At that moment, I hoped that my instinct would be wrong but now I'm very sad and furious. Yes, no animals deserves this awful ending. I don't call it fate ....it is Pjud own doing. Careless is too light a word to use on him. He is outright irresponsible and not even a bit remorseful. What kind of human being is this.

Pjud, when we rescuers put our cats up for adoption, it is not because we don't want them anymore but mainly to find them a good home so we can continue our rescue mission for other strays. Most of my rescue kittens are brought back from near brink of death. We nursed them back to health so that they may have a second chance in life. Most of the time it is even painful to let go to potential adopters because we have feelings for them. I'm sure I'm not the only one feeling like this.

No matter how hard I screened the adopters, I'm still worried about the safety of the cats what more having murderers like you around. I had long decided to release my rescued cats in my neighborhood so that I can still care for them and love them. I think they stand a better chance of survival here with me rather than in the hands of absolute strangers like YOU.

Please don't get me wrong here. I know there are many very nice and responsible adopters out there. It is just me, a non risk taker.

Nita, please take comfort in the fact that now Rascal need not have to suffer anymore.

Take care and best regards.

God bless you.

Semua haiwan dalam dunia ni memang cantek tak kisah pedigree or non pedigree, persian or kampung. Mereka tetap ciptaan Tuhan. Akk rasa binatang nie lagi murni dari manusia.

Manusia ni kejam. Selalu mendera binatang manakala ada masa manusia mendera sesama manusia . Tetapi binatang tak pernah pula wat macam tu ngan manusia. Tetapi sedih bila dengar manusia nie mendera binatang

This is Pjud@Hafizuddin's facebook profile:

http://www.facebook.com/pjuds

I was advised a moment ago against posting his picture directly on the forums here. And for personal reasons, I will NOT do so.

I have contacted the apartment security and reported him as a pet owner. I have asked them to raid his place, and to continue doing so from time to time. The management does not allow animals at the apartment, and it's probably for the best. The main security lady confided in me that this is not their first case of 'kucing jatuh dan mati' at the premises. So much has happened before.

Whatever the case, let this final action help ensure that Muhammad Hafizuddin here does not lead another innocent fur-kid to it's death. A very hard lesson learnt, but not one that will go to waste.

I agreed with you about giving the furry to stranger. I, like you released them at my backyard during day and try to keep them indoor during night. With so many zombies these days, it is so hard for most furry to be safe.

sedih betul bila dengar kes macam ni. sungguh tak sangka. kak nurul saya pon terfikir gak pasal GP yg dia adop tu. Kalau rasa tak mampu nak bg mereka kasih sayang lebih baik jangan sibuk2 nak bela. buat naya pada mereka. ingat2 lah tuhan itu maha kaya. balasannya pasti ada...
