Misery on Pulau Ketam and merciful saviours risking life and limbs for them ... showing every God-given life is precious, even that of a stray ... puts those cruel humans responsible for this heinous crime to shame!

Re: Pulau Ketam & MPK Klang Dump Dogs in Uninhabited Island
DIMB, if possible, could you please try to get some puppy food for the donations to FFF as well ?
Ms. Sabrina would like some puppy food donated as they have new batches of cute puppies there. And some packets of rice if possible too as they normally mix dog food and rice for the doggies. TQ.

Re: Pulau Ketam & MPK Klang Dump Dogs in Uninhabited Island
Hi,
Sure, My have 1 puppy and 2 adult super premium. other i think is adult dog foods.
dont give rice to dog eat. Some dogs are allergic to rice. the skin would break out and get all red. Follow the AAFCO protocols, all will fine. You check time to time as bottom up to date dog food, It is real time donated by public.

How else to afford to feed all the dogs when she runs on her own money and some donations. Good kibbles for 1 small dog is so expensive and mongrels eat a lot more

Task force for island dogs
Local Pulau Ketam.
Systematic plan to rescue strays set up Nevash Nair
Malay Mail Tuesday, May 12th, 2009
dogsRESCUE: SPCA workers carrying one of the stray dogs they managed to save at the Selat Kering islanddogsRESCUE: SPCA workers
Special task force has been set up to resolve the issue of stray dogs that were left on uninhabited islands off Pulau Ketam.
After the Ketam dog issue was highlighted by the media, the Klang Municipal Council met with non-governmental organisations (NGOs), animal rights activists, members of the public and elected representatives to discuss immediate action to solve the issue.
The meeting was chaired by councillor Datuk Abdul Ghani Pateh Akhir and involved Kapar MP'S. Manikavasagam and Klang Selat State assemblymen Dr Halimah Ali, the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), Furry Friends Farm (FFF), Save A Stray (SAS) and the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS).
Also present were animal activists, representatives from the Hulu Selangor Municipal Council and Petaling Jaya Municipal Council.
SAS founder Jacqueline Tsang was vocal during the two-and-a-half hour meeting, calling for immediate action by the council and urging for a joint effort from all relevant parties to help bring an end to the misery of some 1,100 stray dogs on islands near Pulau Ketam.
She also provided guidelines that included the feeding of strays on the island.
All representatives provided their input and PJ councillor Anthony Thanasayan even offered to help the Klang council solve the issue.
There was heated discussion and disagreement over the importance of feeding the strays. Finally, they decided to form a special task force which would include NGOs, members of the public and council representatives to look into the feeding of the strays.
The SPCA was assigned to lead the programme, which would be assisted by other NGOs.
The FFF and the Klang council would work together to trap and catch the stranded dogs.
The third part of the plan was to ensure that all dogs from the island would undergo sterilisation to be carried out by the DVS.
SAS will be in charge of finding new homes for the dogs.
Last week, it was reported that stray dogs were left to fend for themselves on the uninhabited Pulau Selat Kering and had resorted to eating each other to survive.
This was the gruesome finding of the SPCA, animal inspectors and SAS founder Tsang when

A dog named Morgan ...
I remember Murugan well because he is a very dedicated man with SPCA, works tirelessly with enthusiastic eyes and has a very warm, friendly smile, often seen transporting dogs by carrying them gently and lovingly in his arms.

Updates from http://www.mycen.com.my/rescue/updates.html
Tuesday, 12/05/09:
A Dog Named Morgan
Sabrina with rescued Morgan. She named him after her former colleague and SPCA's employee Murugan who trapped Morgan and several others. Behind Sabrina, is our sponsored port police patrol boat that brought me, Sabrina and Morgan back to the Yacht Club. See the comments section on Antares' blog about Muslims and dogs. I added this comment to the discussion:
"I also like to add that many of the donors to this rescue mission are Malays/Muslims. Not only do they contribute money but also offer prayers. Also on the ground, several of the boat crew and fishermen helping us, are Muslims. Zalina helping out at our Mission Secretariat is Muslim too - TV Smith"

Re: Pulau Ketam & MPK Klang Dump Dogs in Uninhabited Island
I visited FFF last Sunday and saw Grace and Hope and Cleo and other dogs rescued from Pulau Tengah and PUlau Kering. They're doing well although initially with the exception of Grace, they were reserved and shy. Grace may be in pain while i was there - she is recovering according to Sabrina - she didn't look at us (those who visited at that time) nor even want to take a bit of dog biscuits at all.
The rest of the dogs were friendly, especially the welcoming committee headed by Rocky the dog.
I spoke with Ms Sabrina and found out that on a daily basis, they used up 40kg of dog food and 20kg of rice to feed the dogs rescued. This is for the 80+ dogs rescued so far and not counting the dogs from Pulau Tengah and Pulau Selat Kering.
the requirement will definitely goes up once all the dogs are in. So please do your help wherever you can, even Rm10 (in our eyes are small) will help greatly.
a tip : i shopped at sea park pet supplies for my dog food - was in the vicinity - there's a promotion on canned dog food - evanger brand. RM3 per can (sorry forgot the weight of the can but size is like your large can of condensed milk) which normally costs RM9 usually.

Re: Pulau Ketam & MPK Klang Dump Dogs in Uninhabited Island
Directions to Furry Friends Farm,
you know what's it's always better to call ahead and make appointment with sabrina as she or her volunteers may be busy with their chores..
contact number as below in my post...go and help..if you feel outraged - that's good - but even better - do something to help - this not meant as a flak but i feel that at this point in time, our anger can be rechannelled into positive thoughts for the dogs and better plans and actions -
the questions can come later...

Hello, i'm new in this forum. I'm touched by all kind souls helping and rescuing dogs from the exile island. I've put up the poster, and links (FFF, sabrina and TV smith) in my blog and in my Facebook. And hope the donations will not stop here.
I'm a malay and i hope i can change some of my Malay frens' mind set about dogs. It is not a sin to donate, help and rescue dogs.
