Default Food You Should Not Feed Your Cat

http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?c=1&aid=1029

by Veterinary & Aquatic Services Department, Drs. Foster & Smith

just to share this information..but my doubt here;

"Onions and garlic (raw, cooked, or powder): Contain sulfoxides and disulfides, which can damage red blood cells and cause anemia. Cats are more susceptible than dogs. Garlic is less toxic than onions."

"Yeast dough: Can expand and produce gas in the digestive system, causing pain and possible rupture of the stomach or intestines."

"Raw eggs: Contain an enzyme called avidin, which decreases the absorption of biotin (a B vitamin). This can lead to skin and hair coat problems. Raw eggs may also contain Salmonella."

can someone clarify me this fact??? currently i fed my cat with yeast n garlic supplement...sometime i fed raw egg yolk...

tq...

A good one Algojo
I used to buy brewster yeast with garlic as I heard its good for stopping the tearing in flat nosed cats. Also, I have heard that people give raw eggs to their cats to fatten them up as the content of protein is high and is good for the fur too. But never heard that it can actually harm our beloved pets.

Anyone can clarify?

Lately, Vet buat study, garlic adalah salah satu makanan yang tak elok untuk diberi pada kucing...Ni saya copy paste from the net...

Can my cat eat garlic?

NO! This is often given as a home remedy for flea problems, and this is an example of home-spun wisdom being dangerously wrong. Pets in general, and cats in particular, should not be given garlic or human food that has been cooked in garlic. The reason is the same as why why cats should not eat onions - garlic contains chemicals that kill the red blood cells of cats, and it can induce feline anemia. This is a serious blood illness, and the symptoms include vomiting, diarrhea, and red colored urine.

If you've given your cat garlic, it is probably not going to cause anemia. It takes large quantities of it to be toxic enough to make the cat seriously ill, or very frequently giving it to your cat for a long period of time. However, it is bad for your cat because it will do damage to the cat's blood cells, and if you have been giving it to your cat you should stop. If you are worried, look at the page on feline anemia and watch the cat for any symptoms. Generally the damage is not permanent, because if you stop giving the cat garlic its body will be able to return to producing a normal red blood cell count. You can find examples of safe, natural home remedies for fleas on this page that will not hurt your cat.

Yes, this was wat I was told and recommended by the Pet Shop. I did try it for a while but it only help to minimize the tearing on my flat nose cat. I have a few flat nose cats especially exotics and I noticed that not all of them are tearing. Only 2 out of 3 are tearing. One very badly and the other is just normal. I too have to clean my cats eyes on a daily basis. I use contact lens saline solution and cotton wool to clean their eyes. It's more cleaner than using water from the tap.

Chocolate, coffee, tea, and other caffeine : Contain caffeine, theobromine, or theophylline, which can be toxic and affect the heart and nervous system.
