Default Bored kitty? :(

Hello.

I'm new to the cat-ownership thing as I've only gotten my cat about a month back from a friend of mine. The cat is female, 2 years old, and I keep her fully indoors at all times.

Ever since I've gotten her, I've kept my room door open for my cat to freely roam in and out. What I notice however, is that she never goes anywhere unless people are around. And when people ARE around, she'll just sit somewhere among the rest of us and cat-nap or something.

At night time, especially, she'll just lie on my bedroom floor as if I've locked her in (which I didn't), sleeping around as if she has nothing better to do.

I try to shoo her out so that she can roam but she never does and lately she meows at me out of the blue for no apparent reason. My cat almost never meows and when she does it's only for food or water. Last night, however, the food and water bowls were filled and her litter box cleaned, so I didn't understand the fuss.

Is this a sign that she's bored? :/

Hi!

Tell me, is your cat spayed? Increased vocalisation (sometimes downright screaming ) can indicate that the cat is in heat. Other signs are increased physical contact -- rubbing, etc.

If she is spayed, she may just be vocalising more as she grows more comfortable with you. A lot of cats learn that making noise results in attention. Make a lot of funny noises, and the human comes over and makes more funny noises in response, and sometimes offers affection and food. Yay!

Finally, unusual noise can sometimes indicate illness, but if she's eating, drinking, and excreting normally, then that's unlikely.

Just some thoughts...
:-)
