Help!! Kitten leg problem....with video
Guys...need your opinion on this. Here's my kitty's situation now http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y4fdPpeZe1Q
See how her back legs are arched? She cannot run or jump and only walk a few steps before she has to sit down again. I think she's in pain although she never cried.
This started on Saturday 19/11. She was fine on Friday. I took her to the vet today and they couldn't actually tell me what's wrong. The vet felt around her legs and thought it could be a swollen lymphatic node or maybe a luxating patella (dislocated knee cap because my bf accidentally stepped on her). He said it could also be due to FIV. I asked him how did she contract the disease since she has never been outside or around any other cats. I'm very worried cuz he said if it was really the virus, my kitty may die. She's only 2 months old!! He did give her some antibiotic and some other meds to see if it'll get better in a week.
Anyone ever seen this before? Her appetite is normal and still very playful although she can't run/walk around. Poopoo and peepee also normal.

Did you buy or adopt your cat? If you adopt it, it possibly have been contacted before you even know it. If you are unsure about her condition, you might as well ask another vet and see what's their thought about this. Worst to worst, ask a specialist. Good Luck.

Re: Help!! Kitten leg problem....with video
Hi Meffy,
One of my kitten about 2 years old had the same issue. I actually saw 2 vets. First said nothing wrong but yet she was limping and she was walking exactly like your kitten. She wasn't in pain. I then took to another vet, and took an x-ray and found out to be she dislocated her bones. After 2 weeks she started walking normal but it took actually 2 months for her to walk back like she used to. I would suggest you to get a 2nd opinion. As for FIV, I personally have an experience a kitten was diagnosed with FIV but she's still alive and doing very well with proper care and diet. FIV doesn't mean the kitten will die, don't worry but they do need to be medicated and get their vaccinations on time.

Hi Megaav,
Did it also happen suddenly to your kitten? My kitten is on her 3rd day of medication now. I'm not sure if she's improving cuz she's still walking like that...only much faster But I hope it's a sign that she's getting better. I'll also take your advise to seek a 2nd opinion this weekend if she's still waddling.
Is your FIV kitten still with you? Are they any changes in her behavior/appetite? I hope the vet will rule this out but just in case it is, I just want to be mentally prepared.
Thanks a lot for your input <3

Re: Help!! Kitten leg problem....with video
Hi Meffy,
Good to hear there's a bit of improvement. My cat was a stray kitten, after I brought her home she was walking like that. Eating, pooping wee and playing was all normal. Only after the 2nd Vet's visit I found out the dislocation of the bone. The FIV kitten was a different one. She was rescued too and she was just 2 weeks old when the vet mentioned she has FIV. She was taking her med religiously, again no appetite but I force fed her. When she started to eat solid food i included high protein food, like poached fish and chicken for her. Now she's as normal as other kittens. My vet told me FIV can be controlled with proper care and diet and not necessarily they die. When I first heard my kitten has FIV I panicked, just like you, so I know how worried you must be. Hope all works well for you and your little one. Keep us posted on her result ok? Take care

Re: Help!! Kitten leg problem....with video
Hey guys,
Just want to give an update. My kitten's been on medication for 5 days now and she's getting a lot better although she looks like a rabbit when she tries to run No jumping yet. But otherwise, I'm glad she's recovering.
Is it necessary to get her checked for FIV?

Hi! Glad to know your kitten is alright! Well, you can check out whether she is FIV positive if it can help you ease out your mind :)

Re: Help!! Kitten leg problem....with video
I'll check with the vet on the next visit. One more question. How many times did you use Frontline Spot on for fleas to completely dissapear? 2 months? 3 months?
My kitten had one dose early this month and for this whole month, I notice she is still scratching herself once in a while. Yesterday, I saw a flea on her! The vet says it's supposed to kill ALL fleas within 24hrs. So why does she still have it?
Now I'm worried the infestation I had last month in my house will come back again. It was horrible experience cuz I was bitten all over D: I clean the house almost everyday (vacuum/mop/spray).

Re: Help!! Kitten leg problem....with video
Hi, Meffy --
For what it's worth, my vet recommends using the spot-on flea treatment once a month, every month. I use Advantage rather than Front-line, but I think they're very similar in how they work.
My cats are strictly indoor cats, so I thought I could use the Advantage for a few months, get rid of the fleas, and then be flea-free from then onwards. No such luck! The vet explained to me that we humans often bring fleas into the home. We're out walking about, a flea or two jumps onto our clothing and then hitches a ride right into our houses. And from there, right onto our cats.
Meanwhile, I'm glad to hear that your kitten seems to be recovering from its leg problem, and I wish you both the best of health. :-)

Re: Help!! Kitten leg problem....with video
Hi Neko,
Looks like I should get my supply of Spot On for monthly use. My kitten is fully indoors but she likes to play or even sleep on the doormat (where we wipe our feet when we step in) and with our shoes/slippers I think that's where the fleas jumped back on her.
Thanks for the info and best of health to you and your lovely cats :3
