.:: Cats and Human Pregnancy.. ::.
Hi All,
I wud like to ask this question..
Is it harmful for pregnant women or unpregnant women (e.g just got married couple, planning to have baby) to have cats at home? Sometimes I heard these rumors telling that cat can cause barren/unable to get pregnant..Is this true???
i mean for the health reason of our womb...
If u're too close with ur cats during the pregnancy you might get abortion because cats have certain virus not good for pregnant people...
so is it true?
i mean banyak kali dah jugakkan cite pasal hal ni..
tapi kita tak tahu lg..
lagi2 rancang nak ada babies and tetap bela cats coz dorg my fluffy babies...
tapi kawen pun tak lagi ni jadi mcmna ye?
eh,bkn pasal hal ni tapi pasal hal pregnancy and cats tu ye..
care to explain anyone?
if membahayakan maybe bgla ideas or something...
i don't wanna let go of my babies!!!!

Cats tend to harbour Toxoplasma, but this is true if the cat is a hunter, eats raw meat, and is usually accessible to the outdoors.
Pple who handle Toxo +ve cats and/or love gardening, true enough they are predisposed to Toxoplasma, but HYGIENE is important. As long as you WASH your hand thoroughly before consuming or ingesting any food, you should not get Toxoplasma.
Fetuses of pregnant women, HIV carriers/Immunosuppressed pple and HIV +ve sufferers may succumb to Toxoplasmosis.
FYI Toxoplasmosis is an infection caused by a parasite that can lead serious illness or death of death of the fetus.

Most of the medical doctors will advise against keeping any cats some also dogs. This does not solve the problem. Health is the top priority to them but for pet lover, there are other important things in life too. Just take extra precaution, the risk will be reduced.

Whether you're worrying on the toxoplasma or not, it's not advisable to let anything that are "potentially" (once in doubt take them as)harmful close to your babies. Not only worried on toxoplasma or other infectious diseases, parasites, etc. but also cat scratch, and a big list of potential injuries to your baby.
I think wherever the baby is, hygiene is of top priority. Take great precaution on maintaining top hygienic practices, and stay your baby from any potentially harmful objects, environment and animals.

So how's all of this infos?
Hope enough and all of them answers your doubt..
It definitely answered mine!
basically all you must do is take good care of your cats, make sure they're clean and healthy if you decided to keep during your pregnancy..
and avoided to being scratched by your cats...
also if you love gardening do take precaution on your cleanliness from top to bottom after finishing....
basically just maintain a balance , clean and healthy life!
and do listen to your doctors advice!

Re: .:: Cats and Human Pregnancy.. ::.
cats don't cause abortion, that's superstition.. but of course as with anything we do, its best to have hygienic practices. wash your hands frequently. get someone else to clean the litter box while you are pregnant.
you don't see women going crazy and rushing off to abandon their pets everytime they get pregnant.. that would be very twisted indeed.

Re: .:: Cats and Human Pregnancy.. ::.
.:: Phewwhhh!!! Lega hati Mrs Mondok membacanya... We are planning to have baby as soon as possible...
From the beginning of the topic, means kalau kucing tu dijaga baik dgn sepenuhnya, insya-Allah everythings will be fine... But ada jugak Mrs Mondok terbaca psl cat litter box (tp x ingat kt mana)... As everyone knows, cats waste ada bakteria, so kena carefull bila nk buang cats waste tu... So far, Mr Mondok yg take over the cat waste.. Mrs Mondok only jaga mkn n mandikan kucing... After pegang kucing, we all akan pastikan kami basuh tangan bersih2 or mandi... Of course our cats juga mandi sekurang2nya seminggu sekali... Bab manja2, we both do really love to kiss n hug them... Hehehhe!!!
Kena scratch, Mr Mondok slalu kena scratch... Mrs Mondok still ok lagi...
Any advise or opinions for those who plan to get pregnant or pregnant already??? ::.

Sometimes i came across ladies that sadly abortion happened to them and some of them are having cats as pets...
Most of them didn't know the precaution needed when you're pregnant and even their doctors didn't advice them anything!
So they simply did what they're were use to with the cats, cleaning and washing evrything and after that just washed their hand like they normally do and not the extra way to really2 kill the bacteria..
Well basically this thread is just for we to understand more about the dangers and to take more precaution steps..
There's no intend to basely solely blaming that cats caused abortion..
It's just to explain that they're dangerous germs causing abortion from the surrounding and u'll be prone to it if there are no necessary steps taken to avoid it..
So therefore, husbands and wives out there, maintain a healthy life!
Buat para-para suami di luar sana, ringan-ringankan la tangan menolong isteri anda..
jangan perut isteri anda membesar, perut anda pun turut sama 'membesar'...
wah..bahasa full ni..
