Default Can a nursing cat mother be spay?? HELP ME!! NEWBIE!!

Hi, I have only start having pet cats for about a year now. The female cat, cat mother, have gives birth three times already ever since we adopted her from the street.

After the first litter (when the kitties is about 9 weeks old), we bring her to SPCA Seberang Jaya to be spay. But the person in charge, Madam Tan, told us that a nursing mother cannot be spay, and recently a nursing cat mother have die due to internal bleeding as a complication of the surgery. She also told us that the mother cat should be prevent from nursing for about a month before the spaying surgery.

SO, we brought her home. Trying to stop her from nursing her babies and start arrange date with SPCA again. Only that, their vet only come when there is a sufficient amount of cats and dogs to be spay. I can only paid that much because I still a student then and my dad was the sole bread winner and he isn't happy about "go against the nature"

What a surprise one morning, just 2 days before the surgery date, she gave birth again.. . Nothing is unusual before that. She still nurse the first litter. She din MEOW and OOO like other cats in heat. Nothing. Not even a big belly.

AND now.. We have 8 cats... and we still cant spay her.

SO.. the cycle repeat again.. SADLY... She somehow got pregnant again.. And this time, with a very big belly.. Frustrated.. My mum contacted Madam Tan trying to arrange an abortion only to be inform.. SPCA is a no-kill society.. Thank God.

Now.. The third litter was born. Total 5 of them.. My mum is rushing me everyday to help find adopter to adopt these little cutie and spay the highly reproductive cat mother. Well.. We manage get one surgery appointment on 26 Sept, so we are trying to stop the nursing now. (the kitties was born on 14 August). We would not want the cat mother to die on the table..

BUT.. People are telling me now that I can't separate the mother cat from the kitties now. SOOO... All of you kind-hearted people out there.,.. PLEASE tell me what to do? If we don't spay the mother now.. It might be another litter coming or we take the risk of spaying a nursing cat?? HELP ME PEOPLE...

Don't spay the mum cat yet, the babies are too young. To prevent her from getting pregnant again, buy 2 units of 3ft X 2ft cages and join them up together, tying up the ends of the 2 cages together and put all mommy and 5 little kittens inside with a poo box. Confine them all together for another 2 months or more at least when mommy will still nurse the babies (for comfort nursing) but have less milk.

If you have more $$, it would be better to buy two larger cages and join them up or buy 1 unit of the 3-tier cage to confine the whole family for at least another 3 months.

I do this all the time and never rush to spay mommy because from my experience and observation, it is very important to keep mommy with the kids and let them nurse as long as possible. My 4 month old kittens are still nursing with their mommy in the cage. For safety of the young kittens a spacious cage is necessary, otherwise you will find them missing and dying at odd places.
