Fabulous news everyone! I've finally managed to catch socks again! No more sleepless nights listening to her cry outside.. She's a little shellshocked and weary but none the worse for wear. Other than a little frontline and vitamin supplement i don't think she'll need much else. Have called her adoptive mother with the good news and she is just as happy as i am. We're gonna give socks a couple of days with me to calm down and then she's off to her new home. Thanks to everyone for their support and advice. And thanks to ashley for her cage which i will be sure to borrow in the future for more cat catching. Oh and I've named my two new foster kittens from section 16 and ldp highway oliver aka ollie and sweet pea.

Hmmm.. CocoChino and mr fluffers don't seem to recognize socks. Some hissing and growling on.. I brought mr fluffers and cocoChino to the vet this morning. Mr fluffers was quite cooperative and calm. CocoChino went berserk. Extremely aggressive and wild. This after more than 1 month with me already. How long have i had them now, 6 weeks? Vet thinks mr fluffers is suitable for adoption but will have to consider neuter and release for cocochino. Very disappointing. He might become part of my outdoor feeding club. I'm not giving up yet but will eventually have to give priority to other stray kittens i pick up for fostering. And i pick up new kittens all the time.. Space and time are limited at my place. It sucks but that's the reality of it. Can anyone think of another plan for cocochino? Is anyone good with wild kittens? He is about 5 months old now.

harro!! here's an update about my feral trio and their gatal mummy. i don't mean me btw. i mean their real cat mother!!

yes ashley, socks in on her way to a regular family life.. but she continues to be a challenge for the lady that adopted her. she still doesn't want to be touched and she still hisses. the only progress made is that she can pass by near her, and she won't run away.. and she'll come near enough to eat wet food off a spoon..

cocochino and mr fluffers are total opposites of each other. i can't understand it coz they are sharing the same experiences with me. so what makes one so hard to tame and the other so friendly? cocochino still won't let me hold him, touch him, pet him.. i can only pet him when he's eating and then he's so distracted he doesn't realize that i'm petting him.. when he does realize, he hisses and runs. he's totally driven by food. if i'm eating something he'll climb up next to me or onto my lap to steal it. otherwise he'd rather die than come near me.. he does let his guard down a bit when mr fluffers and i are cuddling togehter on the couch. then, he might come a bit near us and sit on the edge.. mr fluffers is now 100% tame. fully domesticated pet cat. he even lets other people pet him and carry him. he sleeps on my bed! follows me around the house. "helps" me with my chores (when i clean the litter box, he grabs the scooper.. when i sweep the floor he pounces on the broom).

i do have some wonderful news though. my boyfriend's sister wants to adopt cocochino. she thinks he's adorable and she doesn't mind the challenge. she says she's good with cats and can tame him. she doesn't mind that he's cranky, she has another cranky cat already. she doesn't want to adopt mr fluffers as well but i've decided that's ok. if you recall, i actually wanted cocochino and fluffers to be rehomed together but she lives in an apartment and already has one cat. i trust her, so i'm gonna take the chance. no one else is willing to adopt cocochino coz he's so wild. this might be our only opportunity to rehome him. i can't believe no one wants mr fluffers. he's so sweet. is it because he's a black cat? i don't get it..

only after two years??? i don't think i have the patience either.. it would be soooo frustrating to live with a cuddly and adorable animal that you love and not be able to hug it. i love hugging my pets.. that's the best part.

i guess if no one wants mr fluffers, i will eventually take him off the adoption market and keep him. we get along great anyway. i've already had him for months! other foster kittens have come and gone and he's still growing up with me. quite chubby now actually.

last week i was watching tv on the sofa and enjoying a hot bowl of mushroom soup. mr fluffers and cocochino, being very nosy and greedy little monkeys, had to investigate further. both of them climbed up onto my lap and meowed and pawed at my hands and tried to stick their heads into the bowl. i shooed them away and cocochino lost his balance.. he grabbed onto the bottom of my foot to regain his balance (i was sitting with my feet up on the sofa) and ripped it open! i screamed in pain but didn't drop the soup OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!! there was blood blood blood and i was limping around for the next few days.

those two rascals will eat anything. uncooked maggi mee and pasta, moon cake, cupcakes, bread, those dry chinese biscuits with the bean filling (i dunno what they're called), tomato soup, omelette, dog food, crackers, cereal, porridge.. the list goes on.. these are just the things that i have caught them stealing.

hi lynie

ah hah! you forgot to trim their nails

wow...your cats sure are curious-since they're always ready to try new food - then it'd be easier to feed them.

how are they coming along? from your update, it sounds as if they're ready to come out of their shell

i'm really bad at trimming cats' nails.. i get so nervous. i always worry i'll cut too far in and then i'm so tense, my hands shake

yeah they're super curious. last night, fluffers jumped on the coffee table and drank my ribena.. i didn't think that would appeal to him but when i shooed him away he seemed genuinely disappointed..

you know what lynie? you and i need to stay away from the name "coco"

you have a coco who is cranky, you have cocochino who is also cranky, my coco used to be cranky to all of us, now she's only cranky to ginger (who's also trying to intimidate her).

in this instances - "coco" has proven to have some "issues" with assimilation, socialising, trust, etc in the human beings.

well, jokes aside,

me thinks that nothing is insurmountable.

i don't think that coco is cranky honestly - the word is misleading if you'll pardon my being pedantic.

sometimes a cat may have experience something that causes it fear, anger, mostly fear or something unpleasant and it tends to associate this with the nearest object it sees (be it living or non-living). thereafter, the cat will react negatively to this object.

for example, you have two cats, and one day you accidentally step on the tail of one cat, this poor cat howled in pain, and at the same time, coincidentally, your cat comes along. your first cat pounced on your second cat and thrased the daylight out of your second cat- you went hysterical and try to break up the fight, etc. then first cat and second cat didn't seem to get along well.

what happened was when you stepped on your first cat's tail, you caused it shock, pain, fear. in its panic, it didn't associate you with the pain, it associates the pain and fear with your 2nd cat who innocently happened along at the wrong time and transfer the negative assocation with the 2nd cat although the 2nd cat will not know why the 1st cat is mad with him..

in your instance, cocochino has a negative assocation with you, he fears you to the extend that he feels he has to defend himself, scratching out and hissing - a cat's mechanism to defend itself - either fight or flight. sometimes, you won't bother about his hissing - he then learns that you are not afraid and he can't make you back down, then he learns to develop fear of you, always slinking away from you, hiding from you, cowering each time you're near, avoid any contact with you, etc, etc.

the only time the cat shows any "positive" (relatively-speaking) is when the cat is eating - like you said, it is driven by hunger and it will want to satiate its hunger and you're able to touch it then.

it is good to hear that your bf's sister is willing to take in cocochino. but i hope both she and you will continue to listen to cocochino and try the best to understand cocochino when he speaks out - every single behaviour the cat shows - whether vocal or not, is the cat speaking out - it is not the cat's fault that we don;t speak the cat's language and don't understand the cat. we just need to try harder and try with more patience.

the same goes to socks and her new owners.

i know how it feels because my cats took about almost a year to get to know me and to trust me enough to let me come near it and for me to get them into my house - prior to that, they were outdoor half-strays whom i fed outside in my backyard, when it rains, they will scatter to find shelter, etc.

my own coco had some issues with trust and association with us, and i can say that it was only about two months ago that we are able to gain her trust completely and lo behold we found that she's highly intelligent - she does know her name and when we're talking to her and what we want from her. all this were hidden in her "mysterious" behaviour - hissing at us, slinking away from us, hiding away from us,

what they need from us is genuine love and attention and patience and time - which all of us have in abundance.

i'll try to look up this matter in the 'net and if i find good materials i'll post it here to share with all

in the meantime,

"ganbate" lynie, don't give up on them

btw, i'm afraid i can't agree with calling mama cat "gatal" although i know it is done in a joking manner but it has such "negative" connotation - as if she did it intentionally...i'm sorry i'm being such a pedantic today.

ok lets stay away from any names that have to do with COCO.. three cocos with personality and socializing issues.. that's more than a coincidence

and ok i won't call mama cat gatal anymore.. i'll say she was answering the call of the wild.. giving in to the allure of her instincts.. reproducing to ensure survival of the species.. passing on her genetic material..

she's getting big. but still tries to escape. i just can't let her. she must be spayed. she's bored but sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind. life is hard enough for her without having to take care of litter after litter out there in the streets.

do you want to spay her?

it has been done before - it's a hard and difficult decision - but from what i've read, some rescue shelters advocate abortion of pregnant cats if it's not too far along because the new litter of kittens will mean the same number of cats having less chance for adoption and a life - kittens are far "cuter" than adult cat and the same number of cats will risk losing their life.

either this or you wait till she give births then wait another month or so before you spay her.

animals that are constantly caged will become restless and exhibit lots of verbal and non-verbal behaviour to reflect this stress.

are cocochino and fluffers neutered? if yes, then you may want to consider letting them have a free run of the house - but with a caveat- all people in your house must do their part to ensure these cats are not allowed to escape or go out of the house. this way, you can let mama cat have the whole room to herself instead of just the cage. the cage will be her "maternity" room with a box and some towels/newspaper inside.

litter box will be away from the cage and food area, what do you think?

just a suggestion. is cocochino already adopted?

hey, i know was being pedantic but no offense meant, okay

how are you holding up?
