Default Rabies info

There has been lots of info all over media and social media, ever since the rabies "outbreak" began in north Malaysia.

I did some search on my own, and would like to share this info from WHO website:
http://www.who.int/mediacentre/factsheets/fs099/en/

From there I learned that:
- Rabies is a VACCINE-PREVENTABLE viral disease
- There is preventative immunization in people, and
- There is post-exposure treatment for people who have been bitten

I find the info on local media so far has been confusing and not very helpful. If you haven't done so already, please find out more info about rabies from more reputable sources such as - but not limited to - the above.

This post is not just for dog lovers. Even if you are not a dog person, such info will also be helpful for the protection of you and your family.

Peace.

I would like to add on a little to this post.

Rabies is no longer a hot topic in Malaysia, since there hasn't been any full-blown outbreak so far.

However, I think it is a good idea to still learn more about this disease because dogs are such common animals around us - whether as pets or strays.

One good website to get info belongs to Global Alliance for Rabies Control. This org offers a free online course, exam & cert.

The info it provides not only touches on rabies as a disease alone, but includes things like what to do if a dog approaches us. That's why it is not only suitable for people who want to be rabies educators, but for all general public!

I would strongly recommend this website to anyone. It may help you, your family member or your pets some day
