Default Ringworm Problem

Salam,
Ini adalah posting saya yg pertama disini.

Saya ada satu kitten long hair berusia 3 bulan lebih. Masalahnya skarang selepas membuat culture test found out ada Dermatophytes. Vet dah bagi Malaseb utk mandian dan juga prescribed Sporanox (itraconazole). Itraconazole comes in capsule form. Dlm ada serbuk dan strength ia adalah 100mg/capsule. Vet suruh saya bagi kitten saya 10mg/day dimana ia dikira dengan formula 10mg/kg per day. Kitten saya berat dlm 1.65 kg.

Chucky, please forgive me -- I understand your question, but my BM is not good enough to reply. I hope you can understand my English.

My vet said kittens are too small -- cannot take anti-fungus capsules! This oral medication is very hard on the liver and kidneys. Use it only when shampoo and ointment/cream fail.

I also had a small kitten with very bad ringworm. 3 baths with Malaseb solved the problem. If you see fur growing back in the bare spots, the fungus is gone.

Please be very careful with the capsules -- not for kittens!

Best of luck to you and your cat...

Hi Maneki,
Thanks for your advice. My kitten is 3 months old. Yeah I was also aware that antifungal medication is hard on the kidneys. I asked the vet about it and she said that itraconazole is the safest to use with cats. But I'm sceptic and never started the medication . I think I will listen to your advise.
I bathed my kitten (Chucky) with Malaseb once and combed his hair to remove any dead fur and I can see some debris coming out with the fur too. The fungus beneath his below like one a bit already. But I will continue to bathe him with Malaseb for about one month and see how it gets.

I bathed Chucky once a week for a month with Malaseb. After the bath the fungus seems to be gone but keeps coming back after a few days. The most obvious area are the feet and the chest area. The fungus is blackish in color.

Anyone here can advise me on how to go about to solve this problem? I really dont want to give him sporanox. Any other ways which is effective in combating fungus?

Hmmm, are you sure that's ringworm? I don't recall ringworm being blackish in colour... Is it possible you could take Chucky to a different vet for a second diagnosis and opinion?

I brought Chucky to another vet and he and she confirmed its fungus. Ringworms and fungus are the same things right?

Ringworm is one type of fungus. So Chucky may or may not have ringworm, but the Malaseb, as far as I know, is an anti-fungal shampoo, so it should work on whatever kind of fungus Chucky has. Did the second vet offer any other advice?

I don't have firsthand experience with NutriDMV, but I do know that many cats with healthy immune systems can fight off a fungal infection on their own. Some people have used NutriDMV to boost immune system function. You might want to Google it and/or ask your vet or pet supply shop about it. Hoping you can get rid of this icky fungus SOON! :-)
