Hi beckhamnair,

Have you made up your mind abt Rottweilers or the Dobermann Pinschers?

If not, I suggest you reconsider.

Here's why, both breeds are working dogs. In practial terms, when people use the words "working dogs", they are saying:

1) The dogs will grow into a certain size - height and weight. Hence, much more difficult to control than your average pet dogs.

2) You will have to pay thousands of ringgit to maintain them - medical bills, food, books, training time, etc.

3) You take the risk of the dogs biting you, your family, friends and total strangers. This is not because they will always bite, but because if you don't know how to socialise, teach and train the dogs - they will grow up with their own idea of what is right and wrong.

These are only some of the reason why you should not own a working breed.

Finally, forgive me if I'm wrong, but you sound like a novice in this area and quite young (as a person). It takes a level of maturity to understand how dogs think, particularly the larger working breeds. You might just end putting the dog down or asking for shelters to take the dog once you realise Dobermann Pinschers or Rottweilers are not so easy to own.

Having said all these, if you have a PDF reader, you can download and read Chapter 1 of Puppy Perfect (ISBN: 0764587978). You can find the book details here.

For Rottweilers, go to the German parent club for the breed (the site is in English): ADRK

Good luck, and decide wisely.

Hi Beckhamnair...

hope your doing good.
regarding to the above, well im not a pro when it comes to a doberman but i have lived 1/2 of my life along with rottweiler.
As wat Miket had said its not really easy owning any of these breed for all the things listed below( they are expensive to buy and even more expensive to maintain) another thing you have to reconcider(very important) is the training part...i would 99.9% will advice anyone who is going to get a rottie to send the fellow for training...(this will greatly help you in the future)...trust me!!!

im 29 yrs old now and since i can remember i have lived with 5 of them(3 females & 2 males) currently i own a female back home in Ipoh. Unlike what is known bout them out there(all the negative things) please take note thay are not all true!!!

yes rotties are very fierce and unpredictable!!! PLEASE...they are UNPREDICTABLE!!! one minute they will love you the other minute they would charge at you...but this is if the rottie had not been trained by profesional tranning ppl. i had all my 5 rotties sent for trainning wen they were 6 mths and above...

If your rottie is trainned then let me tell you that you would have the best companion you would ever wished for. they are the most MANJA'es dog i could describe. they are loyal and very very good with childrens and an exelent guard dog!!! you and your house will be save from anything you could think off...even rats!!!

so think about it...are you and your family prepared for this responsibility??? remember...rotties are only cute and adorable wen they are puppies, but once grown u might be living with a timebomb, so please reconcider and do all the research you need learning bout the needs also the DO's & DONT's regarding any of these 2 breeds.

wish you all the best!!!

Hi beckhamnair,

another thing based on my experience...even a well trainned rottie is hard headed at times...so you need to be aware of this, constant pushing/forcing could trigger the dog. So you need to learn the skill of mastering them.
Im not sure if other ppl out there would agree with me but from all the 5 i have had...my females were very much more easier to handle compare to the males...

regards,
ashbutt

Hi Ashbutt,

Your info is really meaningfull.
I've went for Rottie competition at Central Park (behind 1 Utama), and manage to meet some Rottie breeders.
They told me the same. It's easy to control them if they have given the proper training.

Another member of petfinder.my has suggested to me to look at Sire and Dam before get the pubs.

Currently observing and learning a lot bout the Rottie. Within these few weeks, it's been like major research and understanding about Rottie and it's best. Hope can learn about them a lot and own one as soon as possible.

I am planning to join the training that provides by MKA at CP, behind 1 Utama on every sunday morning.

I know it's going to be preety hard at first stage to learn and adopt. But got to do it, bec I've this dream of owning a Rottie since young. I think this is the right time to get one as I've some leisure time to spend with them.

Thanks again

Hi Beckhamnair,

glad to hear tat you have started to do your homework and research on these breed

yes ...yes another important thing tat i had failed to inform you(thank god the breeder did) alwiz get a puppy from a RESPONSIBLE/BERTAULIAH breeder!!! WHY??? very simple...wen you get the chance to look at the parents of the pup you will roughly get the idea wat the pups will turn out to be wen they grow old... puppies will directly carrier both parrents gens in them...so if you see the parents are those good kind hearted rotties
you will end up with one and if the parents are those rotties tat we see in the movie "omen"...all the best!!!

also since your sooooo going goo goo gaa gaa over rotties...i hope you will not jump at buying thevery 1st puppy u see...take serious consideration in purchasing, check out the breeder, the environment the parents live in, the heritage of the pups, health part...bla bla bla.

So all the best in your adventure...my prayers tat you will find the most adorable bundle of joy tat will give the utmost love and loyalty to you and your family for its entire life.

cheers,
ash

Careful of HD (hips dysplasia) its very common in big breeds and some cases it's so bad that you have to spend at least 7k above for a surgery to correct it. Anyway I personally don't like the way MKA trainers works.. Do check out other options like Pet n You or personal trainers like Cheng See. See the way they train their dogs. Get the trainer to give you a demo and explanation why they do that particular style of training.

Another tip for you maybe you should try walk a fren's rotty and try handling it as an experience.

this two dog not easy to maintain man...

i find this two dog very fierce hehee but they are specially very loyal to the owner - that if you treat them well..

but they are very aggressive so dont get your guests coming near them
i used to have friend who owned let see 3 rottweiler

goodness so scary when they come charging to the gate..luckily my friend's house gate is huge tall - if not they can maul me into pieces

i thought rottweiler there are certain cases it is actually banned here...

but i seldom find this two dogs here around
same goes with german sherpard - not popular i guess

if you want to start - you really need to start from a little pup
the earlier one you saw the shop one like what i did
i think that one few months - harder to train i scare or the dog will go on top of you instead

I read an article about Rottweiler.

They say we shouldn't buy Rottie when it's very young, must wait 3 months instead.
It's seems if we bought it when they are very young, they might fall ill and die. If die, no moneyback from breeders.

Some saying need to buy it when it's 8 weeks+. So we can train them well.

Now I am confused. which one is true?

Ai ya.. Internet is always a place for information and misinformation. Well pups wean from their mothers at 6weeks old onwards and can start eating solid food. But separating the pups from their mum at this age might give you behavior problems in future as they did not get much experience in socialising with their brothers n sisters. Personal preference is at least 10 weeks old to separate them. By getting more of mum's milk they can be more healthy too. Just common sense.

Hi Beckhamnair,

Wat acsyen say's is very true!!!
removing pups from mummy at a very young age is not tat good...it needs the mummy's milk to be strong and fight off some pesky mean virus/sickness. just like human babies...mummy's milk is the best!!!
also taking them away from their siblings at a young age prior before they get socialize is alos wrong...if this fails, the puppy might grow up becoming violent towards other dogs...

hence 2+ - 3 mths is a good age

the breeder:kkdoggie.weebly... i know those ppl very well(Sam & Louis), talk to them and explain to them and they will guide you to the correct owner. Both Sam & louis are not the breeder but they are the middle person. so you need to talk to them on your choice and they will look around for you till you get the right one.

Hi,

Thanks for all of your information and advice.
I've name him NEO (Keanu reeves in Matrix)

As you all can see the display picture, that's his look actually.
Currently I've put him in the cage but inside the house.
Is that ok? Or just cage him outside?

He is just 2 months, can he adopt to outside temprature and so on?

If u can put him outside the cage and inside the house that is the best!because last time my rottweiler i treat it like this. It's is the best ways u teach it pee and poo outside the house. Now it is 2 years old already and it look friendly and will no attack people without command of owner. We train it with own.Now it know many things and it love us so much!
