Cheaper Hay source for bunnies

Hi all bunnies lovers!

I'm new to the world of bunnies just recently.
I have two young male bunnies and they indeed love to eat the Timothy and especially, the taste of alfafa. I tend to mix two together while serving them.

While I was reading the threads here, I found that a cheaper source of hays we could get from is the Equestrian club. However they only provide in size of 60kg with double compression bale. It is cheap and fresh, but it won't last for so many months with moist level contain in the fresher hays, once open.

I wonder if any of the owners here have experience storing large quantities of hays, or anyway to get cheaper source rather than online stores.

Many thanks in advance!

Hi there! Welcome new bunnyparent!

Oh I never ask any equestrian. I opt to buy hay from a supplier instead because petshop's hay are expensive. I found one seller that I kept buying hay from until now. Quite cheap, RM9.50 for a kilo. She's also in the same bunny support group as me.

Dear Mayashah,

Thanks for your reply !! I will definitely check it out!

As in the meantime, I have just gotten a 20KG bale of Timothy hay in early September from a horse food provider in Serdang, Vetplus Sdn. Bhd.

They sell per bale of 20kg at RM70. Their office opens Mon-Fri 8-5pm.

This is still the first month I'm using their hay, and so far, my bunnies love them! Of course, 20kg (which I store in a big storage box) is a lot for bunnies consumption. We just leave the hays indoor and not heated up, and will monitor if it is good for the following months. It saves the hassle.

I will update if it is all good!

Best, Sylvia
