Re: Training My Labrador
Hi there everyone, i actually don't send my dogs for training but i train them myself. All 4 of my dogs i train myself & all of them know their 5 basic obedience commands well (sometimes they get stubborn). Apart from the important house training (a.k.a toilet training & potty training), the 5 basic obedience commands are also very important. Train this 5 1st before training other tricks. Here are 2 links of my dog training video:
1. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7FfvBEaOqCk 2. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M_46u15e3gg Kaiser knows 39 commands (5 basic obedience commands included), Fraulein knows 17, Bear - 22 & Spike - 10. Each dog i had to use different approach/techniques but when it comes to rewards, i don't offer treats. I use a lot of verbal praises & hugs. Once your dog associates a command with food, it'll only obey commands when it's sure food will be given. This way could lead to over-feeding the dog. Whereas, if the dog associates a command with verbal praises & hugs, it'll obey commands knowing that it'll get lots of attention, thus strengthening the bond. You need time, patience & perseverance when training your dog. |

Re: Training My Labrador
start training pup @7-8months old? no way!! the best age is at min. 3months old. u know, i started training Spike (gsd x rott) @2months old though the best age is 3months. i thought of being a bit ambitious so i started training @2months old. he did surprise me & picked up commands quite fast. now he's 6.5months & already knows 10 commands. if it's agility training then you can start when the dog is already 1yr old. that includes guard dog training too, as i was told by someone who works in the vet dept.
