Australian quarantine

Hello, all --

I know several people on Petfinder have put beloved dogs & cats up for adoption before re-locating to Australia, which has famously (or infamously?) strict laws about importing animals. The normal quarantine period for a dog entering Australia is 6 months.

I just read, however, that it is possible to bring dogs to Oz with only a 30-day quarantine:

"Quarantine can actually be as short as 30 days if you do your paperwork properly, and well in advance, and if your dog meets the rabies vaccination requirements for minimum quarantine time."

I don't know the details on this (or whether there are similar shortcuts for cats), but I post it with the hope that some pet-lovers may look into it further and find that they can in fact bring their furkids with them when they fly off to Australia. {good}
