Kitten eating her own poop
I moved my kitten's litter box into the bathroom about two weeks ago -- so far, so good, no accidents. However, when I was cleaning the litter box and the bathroom this morning, I discovered "evidence" behind the toiletbowl that my kitten pooped at that spot and eaten her poo. I am hoping that this is a one time thing as it is only on that particular spot and looks new. Is this normal?

Re: Kitten eating her own poop
It's been a few days since your post. Has it happened again? I hope it hasn't and she's using her litter box again.
Maybe your kitty is reacting to the relocation of her litter box. You know how cats HATE changes. They like everything to be in exactly the same spot. It makes them feel safe and secure. I know some people who lets their cats poop in the bathroom near the drainhole. They'd just wash it down with water later on. It saves them money on litter sand. I wanted to do that but I can't stand the idea of having the poop/pee sit there for 8-9 hours until I'm home to wash it away {sweat} |
Re: Kitten eating her own poop
Hi Meffy, nope, it only happened once. Phew! I think what happen was my kitten is one of those very fussy ones. I noticed that she will hold and not use the litterbox to poo if she has pooped in it once and it is not being cleaned. I read an article somewhere that sometimes a cat would eat its poo to "destroy the evidence" if it has pooped out of embarrassment.

Re: Kitten eating her own poop
Hi Kynthia, you should see my cats looming around me when I am about to clean my litter tray. Once I finished cleaning, they will jump in the tray and do their business. {wink} This usually happens when I am out for a long period of time or when I am too lazy to clean more than twice a day. {grin}

Shazshera, my kitten does that too! If only cats leave us with tips each time we clean the litter tray, we'd be rich!
