Rimadyl - Effective Cure But Deadly For Labradors
The best-selling drug known as Rimadyl, which has enjoyed remarkable success as an anti-inflammatory medicine for pets, has been found to be deadly for some dogs like Labradors, as witnessed by the FDA receiving more than 6,000 bad reaction reports about the drug manufactured by Pfizer.
If you have a Labrador, DO NOT give them Rimadyl. Labradors have a tendency for liver and kidney failure on Rimadyl. Some dogs may tolerate it, but a few will not. Consult your Vet for alternatives like Tramadol. |
Re: Rimadyl - Effective Cure But Deadly For Labradors
Recent studies suggested that the incidence of these organ damage may be higher then the 0.05% initially published in 2005. But then although 25% of the incidence were reported in Labradors in the initial studies, it was not proven to be significant statistically because labradors may be over represented being a popular breed. As of now it is not believed that labs are more prone to develop liver and or kidney damage as compared to other dogs. The standing protocol now is for vets to avoid prolonged use of this drug and should this drug be used for prolonged periods, a series of evaluation including blood work to evaluate liver enzymes and renal function should preformed.
