Honoring the Rescuers
There's this little old lady who feeds strays around the Mewah Court flats in Penang. She will pull her cart every evening with a big container of rice and meats and feed the strays that stay around the area. Those dogs are normally very cautious of humans but when they see her, they immediately run up to her. She carries with her several containers to feed the hungry dogs with and she uses the sink of the nearby coffee shop to fill other containers with water. I can see that she is not very well off as her cart and herself had seen better days. She is bent over double probably due to a back problem or over work but this does not stop her from coming every evening to feed the hungry fur-kids and fur-babies there. I have not plucked up the courage to talk to her as she goes about her task silently but I say a silent prayer in my heart that she be blessed many times over for what she is doing to help the dogs in the area.
By the way, I am considering to start a TNR program in the area where I live where there are several stray dogs living outside a coffee shop. However, most of these dogs are afraid of human contact as quickly disappear if you come near them. Does anyone know where I can borrow humane traps so I can send these doggies for neutering? Are there any veterinarian in Penang that charges a reasonable fee for neutering? When I neutered my dog recently, I was charged about RM300+, anyone doing it for below RM300 if I bring in a few dogs? Thanks all for reading. |
Re: Honoring the Rescuers
hi wantong,
yes, there are many silent heroes out there who do what they can to help the poor animals, just like the old lady... may all of them be blessed... i'm in kl, so not sure abt penang... here in kl, there are a few vets who give discounted spay/neuter rate to rescuers... perhaps you could try asking a vet u r familiar with? otherwise, what abt spca penang? catching a stray scared of humans is not an easy task at all... spca should have the expertise... all the best in work to help the poor animals... {good} |
