Heartworm prevention?
 

Hi there,

Our Golden Retriever, recently went for his 3rd immunization and we were advised by the vet for heartworm prophylaxis treatment.

I am wondering how rampant is this disease here and if you all give routine prophylaxis.

The reason I am quite cautious about this is because some readings of the Internet seems to suggest that
i) the prophylaxis is not really good enough to prevent the disease
ii) the treatment may even be toxic.

I am not sure how what the rest feels here.
