Re: My dog is sick. What's wrong with her? Help!
Hi there KellyC,
I’m sorry to hear that your dog isn’t well. Although not a doctor I’ve dealt with my fair share of sick animals. One of the main things you need to be concerned about is keeping your dog well hydrated. The suggestion of using a syringe to administer water is a good one. Make a note of how much water you give and how often and then also keep track of when your dog urinates and or has a bowel movement.
You could also try to tempt your dog to eat and drink by boiling some chicken mince and then taking a small portion of the water and meat and mixing it with a little regular water, a little bit of plain rice and some mashed banana (the inside part of the banana like we would eat.. NOT the peel!) If she seems to like it and is interested only give her a very small amount and then wait at least 2 hours before you give her any more. You could also offer her a small amount of PLAIN yogurt (the kind that has the live bacteria in it) as the probiotics in it can help her digestive track. You could also talk to your vet about using slippery elm and/or marshmallow root to help sooth her stomach and digestive track. Did the doctor give you the name of the infection that is making your dog sick???? If you think she is getting worse or her symptoms change contact your vet straight away for guidance. Best of luck and I hope your girl is feeling better soon. *Mutt*
