AnimalCare Notice Board

One-eye Angel 4 Adoption
Only one eye, but still an Angel

I received a call yesterday, from someone I had met casually at Ketam. She told me she is a rescuer and had rescued this poor cat from under a car recently. The cat was very sick, and now has a serious eye problem. The eye is full of pus, and is bulging very badly. The cat needs surgery urgently. This rescuer is not employed and had been trying to seek help from the various animal welfare groups for the last five days, but no one would help her. I said we will help her. We will sponsor the surgery.

So the rescuer brought the cat to Mayo Clinic today for the surgery. I went to visit this afternoon. Poor little thing - one eye was bulging and swollen, double the size of the other. The vet said it is glaucoma in an advance stage, and the eye could not be saved anymore. It would have to be removed, so Angel (that's what I called her) would only have one eye after the surgery.

It's ok, Angel. Even with one eye, you're still an Angel in our hearts.
Angel had her eye surgery yesterday evening. The vet said it went well and the skin is dry. As you can see from the photo, she needs to wear a collar for the next few days.

She was very quiet today - probably needs a lot of rest to recover.

Two of the clinic cats, MiMi and RayRay were nearby to keep her company. The one you see in the photo is RayRay.
Angel is up and about today. She is sitting up and eating well too. Her (one and only) eye is bright and beautiful. The cavity of the eye socket on the other side is still stitched up and cannot be removed yet.

RayRay, one of the clinic cats is still Angel's constant companion.

While we were visiting (Angel's rescuer and me), Angel ate two helpings of food! Her good appetite is a very encouraging sign. Her rescuer brought Angel's favourite food from home too.

Would anyone like to adopt Angel? Her rescuer lives in an apartment and cannot keep pets. If there is no adopter, Angel would have to be returned to her place of origin, but she only has one eye now, and may have problems in adjusting and coping.
