Re: Pets for Adoption
Dear Moderator Maneki Neko,
Thank you very much for sharing your information and some questions.
To be frankly speaking, I have not much knowledge on rabbits too. I have only cats and fish at home. I am sorry that I can't answer your questions and I hope that the rabbits lovers or specialists can help us on your questions. You had raised very good questions indeed.
I am rather sensitive with the word "adoption". When we, the pet keepers give away our pets for adoption, we are basically looking for passionate adopters or pet lovers who can provide better care or someone who can take over our responsibility to take care of our pets due to our own excuses (1001 reasons such as health, children grown up, grown up pets not cute, busy, not enough space, accidentally pregnant, the list just go on). I think our society has become so materialistic that we have to impose an adoption fee (another excuse: cost of feeding them since young, etc) even though we are asking people to adopt our pets . Home shelters (and some rescuers) have good reasons to impose adoption fees and I believe most of us know and find it acceptable.
For me I think, being pet lover myself, we are all friends here. If a friend of us come to us and ask us to adopt his pet because he has no time to take care of him and on top of that ask us for an adoption fee, what would we think of him and we will sure ask ourselves whether it is fair for us.
If these pet lovers want to give up their pets for a fee, it would be appropriate for them to put their advertisement under "For Sale" rather than "For Adoption". I hope we will treat our pet animals under our care as pets and not as merchandise. Be more responsible and caring towards our pets.
Be a caring and responsible society.
(Sorry, I don't mean to offend anyone, just share my thought).
Thank you.
