Hello! I'm not sure as there is an ideal weight for a cat or kitten, as they are like people -- some have bigger bone structures than others.
What I've read is this: to tell if your kitten or cat is over/underweight, stand above them as they are standing still. (Does your kitten ever stand still?
)
Look down on the shape of the body from above. There should be a slight inward curve between the belly and the hips. If the curve is dramatic, and ribs & hips jut out, then he's underweight. If you just see roundness from shoulders to butt, he's overweight. He's still growing at 6 months, though, and I've read that kittens will consume twice the amount of fully grown adults. It makes for some horrifying food bills before they've reached adulthood...
Best wishes to you both... :-)
