Wand toys and fishing pole type toys are great for interactive play with cats. Cats go wild for toys such as the immensely popular Da Bird, so much so that they will seek them out even when "put away." Unfortunately, the cord or nylon string on these toys is purposely made strong, so that cats can't break it during play. This built-in strength can lead to a cat's demise if the cord becomes wrapped around his neck during unsupervised play.

Here's a way to safely store these interactive toys, so that you and your cat can safely enjoy many more happy hours of play:

1. Measure the diameter of the largest part of the toy (the reel in a fishing pole type).
2. Buy a heavy cardboard mailing tube in a diameter to fit, that has caps for sealing each end.
3. Slide as many wand toys as will fit inside (string-attached end first), and secure the caps to each end.
4. Store upright in a closet for added safety.

Note to add:

this tip applies to all types of toys we buy or make for our cat from just mere "rafia string", "gelang getah" or "rubber band", pieces of tape, "plastic bag with handle" etc.

think safe - put everything away, even a mere piece of plastic because your kitty could choke on it.

also, if your wand toy broke down and the rubber string or nylon strand breaks up, throw it away, never let your cat plays with it, he/she might aciddentally swallow it

The safest is to put away all toys, except small cuddly toys (without beans or buttons), when not playing, into a cupboard, on the top shelf where kitty can't get to. The door must not be a sliding door, or kitty will figure out how to open the door in no time.
