Default What's your doggy meal?

Let's hear from all the dog lovers out there, how you maintain a balanced diet for your doggies!

Not sure of the nutritional value, but I often purchased lots of those chewy treats like bacon strips etc for my dog hehe... an assortment of doggy junk food and toys from each country that visit hehe..

Oh, and Taiwan and Japan has a really good (and often bizarre) collection! Lots of dog lovers there which probably treat their dogs better than themselves :)

Haha... once the dog tastes home cooked food, they'll stick their tongue out and give you a disgusted look when you feed it dog biscuits...

Then again, I wonder if my dog truly enjoyed the good food I gave him.. whatever treats and delicious food I threw him were gulped down ecstatically in a second haha...

I have seen some pretty nice premium grade doggy biscuits that more resembles our biscuits haha... those actualy do smell nice and I can hardly resist from stuffing one into my mouth!

i taste dog food b4, and it suXX... i understand why dogs don't really like them. i do give human food to my dog as a treat.

although she don't like commercial dog food, its life, we just gotta live with it. BARFing your dog can be so expensive. my dog will appreciate her treat-time more. nonetheless, my dog still drools and wet the floor when waiting for her boring dog kibble dinner.

as for commercial dog treats, i no longer buy them. because when it comes to high distraction environment, those treats can't work magic to make your dog dying to eat it, unlike the power REAL meat.

i think to the dog, all the food it tastes are sharply amplified due to its acute sense of smell... so something that tastes "bland" to us might in fact generate a rich picture of taste and smell for them haha...

and if they could speak, they could probably name you the exact ingredients used in it... and maybe teach you how to cook it better, like ratatouille hahaha...

My dogs eat a combo of BARF and kibbles...Have tried many diff brands...So far they seem to do well on California Natural. Most dog kibbles and canned food I know taste pretty bland...but comparatively, I think royal canin tastes better. lol
They also get treats like cheese, sausages or nuggets..as well as doggy treats.

Hahahaha, can u even imagine? A major discussion about doggie food....

I'm like blessedfin, I TRY all my dog food before I let them eat it coz I don't want them eating food too high in sodium and all.

Here's my two cents,

Dogs are carnivores (with the occasional grass nibbling) so generally meat should be their main source of food. The thing with meat is that, it's generally not easy to keep for long periods of time and cooking the meat to destroy most harmful vectors, generally destroy most of the vital nutrients in the food itself.

This is where slow-cooking comes in, cooking the food while preserving most of the nutrients. But let's just take a step back, how many of us actually have the time and patience to cook meals for our dogs.

Therefore, in the name of convenience, God gave us Dry food @ Kibbles hahahaha.

When looking at Dry Food for your beloved canines... try to make sure the first few ingredients are meat based and IF possible not meat by-products. Meat by-products here generally mean stuff that even most people won't eat... ears, nose, intestines, bone marrow... the works...

Grains are okay, but to be avoided if possible. There are a quite a number grainless dog foods in the market today. So ALWAYS look at the ingredients tab and look at the nutritional value of the food. Higher protein may work for some dogs especially active dogs and larger breeds and MAY cause problems for smaller breeds. The trick here is finding the right food for your dogs and looking out for signs of any bad reaction against certain foods.

Some people have have asked me whether they can feed their dogs vegetarian food. As I have mentioned earlier, while it is not ENTIRELY wrong to feed your animals with a vegetarian based diet (the occasional apple, tomato, celery, carrot etc would do wonders) HOWEVER, dogs are mainly carnivores and don't benefit that much from a vegetarian diet. So to all those vegans out there, no offence... but just because you're on a green diet, doesn't mean your dog has to be.

Dog food like Avoderm are quite famous amongst "vegan dogs" but bear in mind, there has been some concerns about Avocadoes being quite toxic to dogs.

Things you can actually add to your dogs meal to make it more tasty would be eggs... raw and fresh... once a week. Carrots (minus the green top - poisonous) and the occasional tomato as it helps promote better coats in your dogs. ICEBERG LETTUCE is useless contrary to popular belief as it doesn't benefit the dogs in anyway.

for more info on what to feed your dogs... go to www.dogfoodanalysis.com...

Hope this post helped you guys...
