U.L.A.T! Where I never expected to find them

I was feeding my cat last night so without much thought I poured her kibbles into her bowl. Suddenly, I saw something moving in it and without having to look closer, I recognized it was a WORM! AAAAAA! I am not being dramatic. I swear I could not move for a few seconds in fear that it would notice me and come directly after me. I was so shocked. In my 11 years of living with cats, I have NEVER FOUND WORMS/MAGGOTS IN DRY CAT FOOD.
How could this be? I can only think to blame the petshop because this was the first time I bought food from them. 1 kg of repacked Sportsman's Pride. I have bought repacked food before in the past (several kg skali gus) from my regular petshop but tak pernah in all those years jumpa binatang hidup yg tak sepatutnya berada dalam tu. Worse yet, belum sempat I nak buang the bowl of food tu, my cat dah makan dengan ulat2 tu skali. I can never look at her the same again!!! Luckily, according to the internet, it won't make her sick. If anything, it's just extra protein for her. Afterwards, I checked the empty container and found some more of them crawling at the bottom!!! YA ALLAH! Apa lagi, I pun screwed the lid shut and threw it out.

Yang I heran benar is mcm mana ada benda tu dalam DRY food? So I googled and discovered that ulat tu is the same kind you find in other dried goods like tepung and pasta and if your kitchen becomes infested with them it would be hard to get rid of. They're called mealworms. The larvae of beetles. Now, before I go and make a complaint with the petshop (that I will never buy repacked food from again), I just nak tanya if any one of you pernah terjumpa benda2 disgusting ni dalam kibbles food anak2 bulu korang. I can only think that it came from the process of repacking kat kedai tu. Because before this, I've never found such a thing in my kitchen or any other dried goods stored in there. Plus, I keep my dry cat food in an air tight container thus it was not exposed to air or flies and any other creatures. I beli yg 1kg kat petshop tu pun only for one of my cats yg mengada tak nak makan food yg dah ada. So to avoid her death, beli lah skit utk dia but kalau macam ni aku mati dulu kot ada benda2 mcm tu. Sedangkan I store 20 kgs of cat food pun tak pernah ada ulat, ini satu kg je. I highly suspect that mmg it was in the pack when I bought it. Surely it can't be the brand of cat food(first time beli this brand) because most kibbles are stripped of moisture when they make it and in the process kill unwanted pests.

I'm sorry if I'm being dramatic but maggots/worms/larvae are a big deal to me. Plus, I don't want my cats to be eating such things. Why should I pay money for things that arent suppose to be there? This is definitely worth a complaint from me and I'm not one to just be shooting my mouth complaining about every petty little thing. Obviously I do not think this is a petty matter. I'm so distressed by this sampaikan I'm extra cautious bila nak scoop makanan for them. Sigh.

hahah..love your writing..nway, this would be the 2nd reason why we should not go for repack cat food.. Geli jugaklah..ur description tue memang precise.. this one.. we cannot blame the manufacturer can we?..I think you should go back to the pet shop and show them..Not expecting to see a refund, but just to inform.. Maybe they left the packaging opened when they were repackaging it..long enuff for the unknown other things to go inside it..

yaa...that could be the reason , becoz some petshops do sell mealworms . My friend's sugar glider makan mealworms . mungkin some of them termasuk dalam catfood yg di repacked tu..

Yeah, i pun dont expect a refund but maybe will kerah for discount on other items like cat litter or can food (can food tak de repack!hehe)

but the shop doesnt sell mealworms...eee. tapi beetles are everywhere kan so surely they will lay eggs and bile menetas kluar la benda2 yg boleh cause me a heart attack tu. Unfortunately die nak bertelur pulak dalam dried goods. Just my bad luck

Hey... the same thing happened to one of my cat boarders. She is feeding her cats with IAMS and when she sent her cats for boarding at my place the other day she asked me why her packet of IAMS had maggots in them .

I also could not give an answer as I did not know how it could have happened.

As for me I usually put my cat food in air tight container boxes and so far have no problems whatsoever with maggots.

P/s I am scared of those white wriggling worms too

ulat?!me also same.pernah jadik ada ulat.nak di buang sayang.(bnyk plak tu)last lastnye ambik mkanan tu letak dlm oven dan jadiklah biskut smprit iams.wangi satu rumah bau dia.lepas pada kes tu saya dah tak beli iams lagi dah.takut terkena lagi....ulat tu mcm ulat yg selalu dorang kasi ikan mkn tu.kenapa ye jadik mcm tu?aims tak de kualiti dah ke?saya pun simpan dlm bekas yg bertutup gak.kedap udara gak.

yg musykil ni.bekas makanan tutup rapat,mcmana lalat nak masuk?dan mcmana boleh ada ulat/ heran bin ajaib gak.tambah umah tingkt 13 ni jgn kata lalat, lipas pun takut nak singgah.gayat tinggi sgt.setakat nyamuk sesat ada lah.

tak semestinye lalat dari rumah kita,mungkin juga mereka dah bertelur awal2 kat kilang kita tak tau.yerlah..tmpt pemprosesan dia pon kita tk tau sejauh mane kebersihannye..maybe time packaging(kat kilang ) or re-packaging(kat petshop) lalat tuh dah bertelur awal2.pastu sampai kat kita dah jadik maggots dah(pandainye mereka cerita!)
