There was an article in The Star recently about people who fell for this very same scam and banked thousands of ringgits into a Cameroon account before they realised they were being cheated. I'm glad you recognised this as a scam before you lost any of your money!

For what it's worth, my advice would be to buy no pet without seeing it. Pets have unique characters and personalities. When you order one from overseas without seeing it first, you run two risks: 1) being cheated by criminals like these, and 2) ending up with a pet that you don't really like.

There are 744 dogs up for adoption right here on Petfinder. Some are pedigreed, and others are not, but they all need good homes, and there is much to be said for mixed-breed dogs. Among other things, they tend to enjoy better health.

Thanks for the information. There are certainly scammers that are trying to take advantage of our members, and we're trying our best to weed our such fraudsters, but it's not an easy task as they'll disguise as all sorts of people and profiles.

The key element they play on is people's greed. If the deal is too good to be true, then it's likely too good to be true, and you must take extra precaution. Also, never buy any pets that are from another country, or remit payments for any pet that you have not personally seen and interacted with.

Such scams exist not just for pet adoptions, but for virtually all imaginable community websites/services, Nigerian email scams or even phone calls that tell you you've won some lottery, all sharing the same modus operandi.

I believe the profile/pet in question has already been suspended earlier. If you come across any such pets in the future, please click on the Report Abuse link below the description section at the pet profile, so we can investigate into it and take immediate action.

Please cease all communications with the scammer, and if they continue to harass you, tell them you'll be reporting them to relevant authorities.

Whoa, after I read thru your post, the content were the exact same 8D;
Actually I got this kind of message mailed to me few weeks ago when I am desperately looking for a kitten. Most of this kind of scammers can be found at OLX site. And recently I found one in mudah.my too.

The only difference was, in my case, the seller told me the cats were her daughter's but unfortunately, her daughter died in an accident when she came back from piano school recently. (this is the line that makes me all suspicious, i mean you dont usually go out and tell strangers all these kind of things eh?)

I tried asking 3 sellers, and all 3 of them mailed me emails just like what you've posted above but with different stories. huhu~ scaryyyy

I hope no one fell for their tricks /_\ But I do pity the sellers if their story were actually true tho ^^;
