How to take care of a pet turtle / pet tortoise?

Hi semua. I hv a pet, a tortoise. i named it SPEED!!. I found it in the drain, about a year ago, while searching for my lost cat (i believed been catnapped). When i found it, saiz dia separuh dari saiz sekarang. Daytime suka tido, dah petang sikit baru merayau2 di garden, then back to its home (bawah pokok2 tu, dlm gambar)....Spesis ni bukan tinggal dlm air kan??? Sape tau Speed ni jantan atau betina??? Tengah cari partner untuk dia....

Do you have UV lamps for your turtles, i'm wondering to get one but not sure if they need a UV heat lamp cus malaysia is hot already.. You know if they sell floating platform for turtles, i can't find any where i live.

I just use batu-bata for the turtles to sun-bath. Hehe..

Btw, here's an update of my pet turtles, Obi and Kenobi. Since they are getting bigger and I figure out that they may not be comfortable living in the third aquarium I bought [red cover as in their PF profile], I've transferred them to a new tank. And btw, this year is their second year living with me... healthy as always :)...

Bought them in March 2009 - almost 1 month old
March 2010 - 1 year old
January 2011 - 1 yr 10 months old

berapa gallon/litre aquarium untuk kura-kura tu? Saya ada 20 gallon tank tak tahulah kalau cukup besar untuk dua ekor kura-kura....

Saya pun tak berapa pasti ni brape gallon/liter. yg saya tau, elok beli yang besar terus. lg besar lagi bagus. sebab saya beli kecik-kecik punya, last-last sampai 3 akuarium saya kena tukar. sebab kura-kura ni cepat membesar :)

tapi, kalau akuarium kaca yang jual kat kedai akuarium tu biasanya muat la letak kura-kura 2 ekor. sebab yang jenis kaca ni biasanya besar sikit.

I do not know how to calculate gallon for tank but I think Kairul's tank there is about 2.5 - 3 feet.

what kind of "transparent skin"? it is a skin? or a slimy thing hanging on the terrapin?

my guess, if it is a skin, it is shading. like snakes, terrapins shade too. if it is a slimy thing, it is a skin as well, just that they got soaked in the water for too long, so became slimy.

the shell shades too. pieces of hard shell will come off one by one when it is time to shade

no skin disease. no worries.

So lucky to find it in a drain?

from the picture i am guessing it is an elongated tortoise (i might be wrong just by looking at the head & body size). it is a land tortoise.

look into the tail, longer tail, jantan, shorter tail, betina
