Hi All,
Just to share... Let's discuss
Last 2 years has seen the rise and fall of the 'doggie fab' where celebrities like Paris Hilton and such sport toy dolls are part of their fashion accessory. And noting on most human behaviors, a lot of them would try to 'follow the trend' and adopt/buy these iconic dogs to use as part of their accessories as well. I'm sure they all meant well.
This also means a bullish market for the breeders (and BYBs of course jump in to get more $$$$) to cater for the increase of demands. This happened mostly in US and Japan.
But what followed was, after it is 'out of trend' there are a lot of these dogs being put up for adoption, PTS, neglected, sent to local shelters etc.
My concern is - the dog age had shown us an example of what could happen - when pet's are used as a trend-setter. The final outcome is not pretty.
Lately, I'm sensing a lot of ads featuring cats. (for eg, IKEACats) and celebrities are sporting their sphinx and other cats on the streets.
The Cat Age is coming!
I'm calling every animal lover in PF to take heed of this and try to practice and reinforce some guidelines during adoptions and such.
Try if possible to follow through some of these tips :-
- Make sure to vaccinate your cats and the ones that you are fostering (a new adopter with a sick cats might not survive the test)
- if it is old enough to neuter/spay please do so. (no BYBs
)
- Be a responsible person and don't mix sick cats and healthy ones -
- Don't give out cats for adoption if they show any symptoms of sickness
- Try and guide and facilitate new adopters
- Report any BYBs you come across to the authorities
I may be paranoid. But I have a bad feeling over this matter, so lets hold each other's hand and try our best to not create the same future like it did for our puppy friends.
Should the Cat Age come, we will be ready to make it the best!
