@ Hafina - yes more better from KK to Sarawak. Mak I pun buat sama bah...
It's true you must apply so they release your pet for 22 days rather than full 1 month.
And it is really true... confirm tak ada kuarantin coming back to KL or any West territories.

baru sekarang i faham semua..
kiranya kita boleh juga buat permohonan untuk kurangkan tempoh quarantine ya?
kalau macam tu.tidur tak lena lah i sebulan nanti tunggu my baby keluar..

sedihnya..
i will try apply apa yang patut..
i dont have any relatives in kk so macam susah nak pergi sana..

pengurangan tempoh kuarantin dr 1 bulan ke 21 hari tu just utk negeri sabah ja... utk sarawak i xsure blh kurg or tak.. but, better 1 bulan drpd 2 bulan kuarantin kn? lgpun sbnrnya, ada caj utk setiap hari kucing u tinggal kat kuarantin tu.. contoh cm dkt kinarut quarantine station ni, for cat is rm4 per day.. so 21days= rm84.. just for ur info la :)

Here are the steps you need to do :-
1) Make sure your cat has been fully vacinated.
2) Rabbies shot given.
3) Microchipped done.
4) Apply for Import Permit at Jabatan Haiwan Kuching.
5) Apply for Export Permit at Jabatan Haiwan Kuala Lumpur.
6) Once all the above has been done and Jabatan Haiwan has approved your application, you will need to bring your cat to Jabtan Haiwan for a medical check up.
&) After health check up has been done then a Health Certificate will be issued to you. This certificate is valid for 48 hours or 72 hours not sure about this. During this time your cat will need to travel if not the 'Health Certificate' will expire.
7) Then you have an option to travel with your cat. Book a ticket then check in your cat as an excess baggage. Charges RM10.00 per kilo.
OR
8) Send your cat via MAS CARGO but you will need to hire an agent to do the clearing for you at Customs office.
9) Upon arrival at Kuching International Airport your cat will be quarantined.

Since u guyz touched on the microchip, I am curious what the microchip for? If I get my cat implanted with the microchip, does that mean he can be traced by a satellite should he get lost?

N how much is the implantation fee?

Hi, Aldot --

I don't have complete info on the microchips, but this much I do know:

A microchip is not a tracking device so will not help you locate your cat should he wander off. The chip is implanted between the cat's shoulder blades and can only be read by certain equipment which is, I believe, usually found in vet clinics. Here is where things get tricky...

As I understand it, there are currently multiple standards for microchips, both within Malaysia and abroad. This means that one vet may have a reader that does not read the type of chip implanted in your cat.

Second, once the vet reads the information from the chip, he needs to match it against a central database, and I'm not sure who is maintaining that. Petfinder keeps one database, but any database is only as good as the information that people put into it, and the Petfinder members who have entered their pet's microchip records there must hope that whoever finds their lost pet will a) think to look for an implanted microchip and b) come to Petfinder to locate the pet's owner. Needless to say, council dog-catchers are not concerned with such things, and I don't know whether shelters like PAWS or SPCA can or do check for the chips.

I believe the cost of buying & implanting a microchip is about RM25-RM50.

I would be very happy if other PF forum members would step up to correct me or add further detail!

I've read on the net that some cat owners also sedate their cats during a long trip to avoid stress. Their cats will sleep the entire 9-12 hour journey.
