Re: Vet to treat bird injuries needed!!
aww, poor pigeon. i don't know of any vet that treats birds, but i wonder if perhaps the veterinary faculty in UPM might have. That's where i sent Brownie (Blackie's late littermate) before, and they have vets in small animals like cats, dogs, & vets specialising in horses, or cows. I found that out when i was chatting with a night-shift horse vet while checking on brownie.
I've misplaced the veterinary card, but you can try calling UPM main number. It's 8946 6000. Ask them for the vet dept, then explain your situation to them.
hope this helps. poor pigeon.

I don't know of a vet but I have a suggestion. Try and contact the KL Bird Park. They have GOT to have the names and numbers of vets that treat birds. Perhaps they can point you in the right direction?
Best of luck with the injured avian,

Try getting in touch with the Malaysian Nature Society birding group. They might have some idea on how to go about this.

Re: Vet to treat bird injuries needed!!
hi everyone!
thanks so much for your concern about my little pigeon friend Ruffles. I named him/her that because of the way he would fluff and ruffle up the weathers around his neck.. i am sad to report that Ruffles has died. his injuries were much worse that i thought.. let me explain..
i work on the 7th floor of my office building. this floor has an open air atrium/courtyard and all offices are situated around it. a flock of pigeons live in this atrium. people feed them rice and bread crusts. after a while you actually start to recognize individual pigeons.. they are all very different. last monday i noticed that one of the younger ones was slower and more subdued than usual.. i thought nothing of it.. then on tuesday and wednesday he was always just sitting but whenever i came near he would flap his wings and move away.. so i assumed he had sprained a leg or a wing, minor injury (i once caught another pigeon with injured leg and within 2 weeks he had recovered and flown away, i thought Ruffles would be similar case). by thursday he was barely moving and hid among some plant pots. my colleague helped me catch him and put him in a box.. then i called my vet who sadly could not help, then i started this thread and you guys responded..
i brought ruffles home with me and fed him bread, cereal, dried cranberries, almond biscuits and rice but none of those things interested him. he died shortly after.. he had already lost lots of weight and was barely moving, it was too late. only after his death could i properly ascertain the extent of his injuries and i know now that he suffered terribly. his death was a slow and agonizing one. i'm glad he's dead. the bone of his left leg had completely snapped and was protruding out through the skin and flesh of the back part of his upper thigh. the bone stuck out almost one full inch. the thigh itself had swelled to more than twice the size of his other leg.
sad story, crappy ending but at least he's not in pain anymore. i cna't imagine how he got that injury.

Re: Vet to treat bird injuries needed!!
So sorry to hear of the passing of Ruffles.
At least you tried to help him. Sometimes despite our best efforts they still pass away but, as you said at least there is no more suffering. I hope you take some comfort in knowing that you tried your best for your feathered friend.

Re: Vet to treat bird injuries needed!!
Hopefully, someone can compile a list of bird savvy vets we can visit.
I find it disturbing pet shops do sell birds but care little about everything else, not much food, toys, accessories, cage, grooming needs, etc. to choose from.
My one of my mom's cockatiel died last year, she couldn't do much and the vet IMHO wasn't up to the task.
